States discuss social security measures, welfare schemes and best practices for construction workers
TFP Bureau, Mumbai, September 12, 2026: A two-day National Conference on Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW) began in Mumbai on September 11, bringing together policymakers, labour officials and representatives from various states to deliberate on strengthening social security, welfare and protection measures for construction workers across the country.
The conference, being held on September 11 and 12, focuses on ensuring a safe, dignified and secure future for millions of construction workers. Discussions are centred on improving the implementation of welfare and social security schemes and ensuring that their benefits reach workers more effectively.
Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje, Madhya Pradesh Labour Minister Prahlad Singh Patel and Chhattisgarh Labour Secretary Him Shikhar Gupta participated in the conference along with senior officials and representatives from various states.
Chhattisgarh was represented by Dr Rampratap Singh, Chairman of the Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, and Girish Ramteke, Secretary of the Board.
During the conference, participating states shared their experiences, welfare initiatives, best practices and innovative measures undertaken for the benefit of construction workers. The deliberations also focused on developing strategies to strengthen the delivery of social security schemes and expand their coverage among eligible workers.
The conference is being viewed as an important platform for inter-state collaboration and exchange of successful practices, with the objective of making the social security system for construction workers more effective, inclusive and accessible.
