Growers in Kabirdham welcome price hike, say decision will help offset rising cultivation costs and improve farm incomes
TFP Bureau, Raipur, October 14, 2026: Sugarcane farmers in Chhattisgarh’s Kabirdham district have welcomed the state government’s decision to fix the sugarcane price at ₹425 per quintal, saying the increase will improve farm incomes and strengthen the rural economy.
Farmers’ union representatives and growers accorded a grand reception to Deputy Chief Minister and Kawardha MLA Vijay Sharma in Kawardha on Tuesday, expressing gratitude to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai for the decision. Farmers presented sugarcane to Sharma and honoured him by weighing him against bags of sugar.
The felicitation took place near the District Panchayat office and the MLA’s office in Kawardha, where a large number of farmers gathered to celebrate the announcement.
Farmers said the revised price would benefit thousands of sugarcane-growing families in the district, which is one of Chhattisgarh’s major sugarcane-producing areas. They said the higher price would help farmers manage rising cultivation costs and secure better returns for their produce, while encouraging further investment in sugarcane farming.
Addressing the gathering, Sharma thanked the farmers for their affection and welcome. He said the welfare and prosperity of farmers remained a priority for the state government.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the government was working to increase farmers’ incomes, make agriculture more remunerative and strengthen the rural economy, he said.
Describing farmers as the backbone of the state’s economy, Sharma said the government was committed to ensuring better returns for agricultural produce and improving the economic condition of farming families. He added that efforts would continue to protect farmers’ interests and address their concerns.
Farmers’ representatives described the ₹425-per-quintal price as a significant step for sugarcane growers and reiterated their gratitude to the Chief Minister and the state government.
