Vijayadashami Reminds Us That Truth and Righteousness Always Prevail: Chhattisgarh CM

Vishnu Deo Sai burns effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnada at Raipur’s WRS Ground; says over 49,000 devotees have visited Ayodhya under Shri Ramlala Darshan Yojana

TFP Bureau, Raipur, October 20, 2026: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Tuesday said Vijayadashami conveys the timeless message that truth, righteousness, justice and humanity ultimately triumph over evil, urging people to follow the ideals of Lord Shri Ram in their personal and public lives.

Addressing the Vijayadashami celebrations at the historic WRS Ground in Raipur, Sai used a bow and arrow to set ablaze the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnada amid chants of “Jai Shri Ram” and the presence of thousands of people.

Extending greetings to the people of the state, the Chief Minister prayed for peace, happiness and prosperity. He described Vijayadashami as a celebration of India’s cultural heritage, social harmony and national unity, adding that the festival inspires people to uphold moral values and strengthen bonds within society.

Sai said the annual celebration at WRS Ground had continued for more than five decades, helping preserve cultural traditions and familiarise younger generations with Indian values.

“The life of Lord Shri Ram teaches us that no matter how difficult the path of truth may be, truth and righteousness ultimately prevail,” he said, emphasising that a person’s character is reflected in the choice to stand with truth, justice and humanity.

Chhattisgarh’s special connection with Lord Ram

Highlighting the religious and cultural significance of the festival for Chhattisgarh, Sai said the state shares a deep connection with Lord Shri Ram. Chhattisgarh is regarded as the maternal home of Mata Kaushalya, Lord Ram’s mother, and is associated with traditions linked to his maternal family.

According to religious beliefs, Lord Ram, accompanied by Mata Sita and Lakshmana, spent part of his exile in the forest regions of present-day Chhattisgarh. His presence remains deeply embedded in the state’s folk traditions, faith and cultural identity, the Chief Minister said.

He added that Lord Ram’s life exemplifies sacrifice, patience, courage, self-discipline and unwavering commitment to dharma. Despite facing adversity during his exile, he remained devoted to his duties and principles.

Sai said the victory over Ravana demonstrated that determination, righteousness and collective effort could overcome even formidable power. The burning of the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnada, he added, reminds people that those who support injustice and unrighteousness ultimately face the consequences.

The Chief Minister stressed that following Lord Ram’s ideals means more than worship. It requires standing up for justice, helping the weak and needy, treating others with compassion and performing one’s duties with integrity. These values, he said, form the foundation of an ideal society, often described as Ramrajya.

Government highlights commitment to security and peace

Referring to national security, Sai said India had demonstrated its resolve against terrorism under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He cited Operation Sindoor as an example of the country’s stated commitment to protecting its citizens and safeguarding national interests.

He said the Chhattisgarh government was working to strengthen peace, security and development across the state, including in Bastar. Creating an environment of trust and expanding development opportunities in every region remained a priority, he added.

Over 49,000 devotees visit Ayodhya under state scheme

Sai also highlighted the Shri Ramlala Darshan Yojana, launched to facilitate visits by devotees from Chhattisgarh to Ayodhya. He said more than 49,000 people from the state had visited Ayodhya Dham under the scheme to seek the blessings of Ram Lalla.

The Chief Minister described the consecration of Ram Lalla at the newly constructed Ram Temple in Ayodhya on January 22, 2024, as a landmark moment in India’s cultural and spiritual history. The event fulfilled a long-standing aspiration of millions of devotees, he said.

He added that the state government remained committed to preserving and promoting Chhattisgarh’s religious sites, cultural heritage and spiritual traditions.

Concluding his address, Sai urged citizens to embrace the ideals of truth, justice, compassion, harmony and humanity and contribute to building a peaceful, secure and prosperous Chhattisgarh.

Rajya Sabha MP Lakshmi Verma and Raipur North MLA Purandar Mishra also addressed the gathering. Former MLA Kuldeep Singh Juneja, Jayanti Bhai Patel, Suryakant Rathore, organising committee head G. Swami, representatives of the National Club, members of the organising committee and a large number of citizens attended the celebration.
