Safe Childhood Campaign Reaches 21 Schools in Raipur, 42 Judges Educate Students on Rights

Initiative highlights child protection laws, personal safety, cyber awareness and free legal aid; awareness programmes underway across Raipur and Gariaband districts

TFP Bureau, Raipur, October 28, 2026: Forty-two judges have engaged with students in 21 schools across Raipur to raise awareness about children’s rights, personal safety and legal protection under the ‘Safe Childhood Campaign’, an initiative aimed at helping children recognise and respond to situations involving insecurity, abuse or exploitation.

The awareness programmes cover child protection laws, online safety, the prevention of child marriage and access to free legal assistance. Students are also being informed about where to seek help, how to report complaints and which authorities they can approach when their safety is at risk.

Launched on October 10 under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), New Delhi, the campaign seeks to create a safer environment for children by familiarising them with their rights and available support mechanisms.

Awareness drive across two districts

During the first phase, awareness activities are being conducted in selected schools across Raipur and Gariaband districts from October 26 to 31.

A district-level coordination committee has been constituted to facilitate the campaign, bringing together the District Education Officer, Child Welfare Police Officers, the Women and Child Development Department and the Cyber Crime Department.

The programmes are being organised under the guidance of Balram Prasad Verma, Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority and Principal District Judge.

Focus on protection, online safety

The campaign addresses several themes, including ‘My Childhood, My Rights’, ‘Know the Law, Save Childhood’, ‘Safe Clicks, Safe Childhood’, ‘Speak Up, Share, Stay Safe’ and ‘No to Child Marriage, No to Child Exploitation’.

Experts from different fields are interacting directly with students. Participants include support personnel dealing with cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, members of the Juvenile Justice Board and Child Welfare Committee, and child psychology specialists.

The sessions aim to help children understand their legal protections, recognise unsafe situations and seek assistance without hesitation. Cyber safety is another key focus, with students being encouraged to exercise caution while using digital platforms.

Interactive activities to engage students

Faculty members and law students from nearby law colleges are also contributing to the initiative through street plays, quizzes, art and painting competitions, and other interactive activities.

These activities are intended to make information about children’s rights easier to understand and encourage students to participate actively in discussions on personal safety and protection.

Schools urged to continue awareness efforts

Authorities have directed schools to continue organising activities on child protection and children’s intellectual and mental development even after the campaign concludes.

The initiative seeks to ensure that awareness of children’s rights extends beyond the duration of the campaign, making child safety an ongoing responsibility shared by schools, families, communities and institutions.
