872 Assistant Professors Recommended for Confirmation After Probation Review

Higher Education Department Scrutinises 1,010 Cases; Some Faculty Placed Under Observation or Given Probation Extension

Raipur, March 27, 2026: The Higher Education Department has initiated an extensive review process to expedite the confirmation of Assistant Professors serving in government colleges across the state, examining the probation status of more than a thousand faculty members.

Following detailed scrutiny of 1,010 cases, the departmental committee has recommended the termination of the probation period for 872 Assistant Professors, paving the way for their regular confirmation in service. Meanwhile, 68 Assistant Professors have been placed under observation, and the probation period of 70 faculty members has been recommended for extension due to not meeting the required performance criteria.

According to departmental sources, the review covered Assistant Professors appointed during different periods. These included 10 faculty members appointed prior to 2022, 338 appointed between January and February 2022, 572 appointed from March to May 2022, and 90 appointed between June and December 2022.

Officials stated that the department carried out a detailed examination of essential documents before taking a decision. The scrutiny process included verification of Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs), police verification reports, certificates of continuous service, integrity certificates, records of departmental inquiries or pending court cases, and declarations of movable and immovable assets.

During the first meeting of the review committee held in February 2026, a total of 348 cases were examined. Out of these, 307 Assistant Professors were found eligible for termination of their probation period after fulfilling all prescribed criteria. Fifteen cases were kept pending due to incomplete documentation, while 26 faculty members were found ineligible for confirmation based on the evaluation standards.

In the second meeting conducted in March 2026, the committee examined 572 cases of Assistant Professors appointed between March and May 2022. Of these, 497 faculty members were found eligible according to the established parameters. Among them, 39 were considered eligible after completing the required documentation. However, 36 Assistant Professors did not meet the necessary criteria and were therefore not recommended for termination of probation.

Similarly, the committee reviewed 90 cases of faculty appointed between June and December 2022. Out of these, 68 Assistant Professors met all the prescribed conditions and were recommended for confirmation. Fourteen cases were kept pending due to incomplete documentation, while eight individuals were found ineligible under the established norms.

As part of the evaluation process, Assistant Professors whose ACRs did not meet the committee’s standards have been recommended for an extension of probation. Among them, 53 faculty members have been given a one-year extension, while 17 have been granted a two-year extension to allow further performance evaluation.

Department officials emphasized that the entire process has been conducted with complete transparency and in accordance with prescribed service rules. The department has assured that eligible Assistant Professors will receive their due service benefits promptly, while appropriate action will be taken in cases where documentation remains incomplete or performance standards are not met.

The initiative is expected to bring relief to a large number of teachers serving in government colleges and help expedite the resolution of long-pending probation cases in the higher education sector.
