The occasion was also observed as National Unity Day.
At Lok Bhawan, Governor Deka offered floral tributes at Patel’s portrait, recalling his immense contribution to the creation of a united India. The Governor’s Secretary, Dr C.R. Prasanna; Legal Advisor Satyabhama Ajay Dubey; and other officers and staff members of Lok Bhawan were present on the occasion.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai paid homage to the freedom fighter and Bharat Ratna awardee at his official residence in Civil Lines. Recalling Patel’s role in bringing hundreds of princely states together after Independence, Sai described him as the great architect of India’s unity and territorial integrity.
The Chief Minister said Patel’s courage, firm resolve and administrative leadership had laid the foundation for a strong and unified nation. His life, he added, remained an enduring example of placing national interest above all else, along with discipline, commitment to duty and public service.
Sai said Patel’s ideals continued to inspire the country’s journey towards development and self-reliance. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’, he said efforts were being made to realise Patel’s dream of a united and prosperous India as the country moved towards the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat’.
Emphasising the significance of National Unity Day, the Chief Minister said the occasion was not merely about remembering Patel’s contribution but also about reaffirming the collective responsibility to protect the country’s unity, integrity and social harmony.
He noted that India’s diversity of languages, cultures, traditions and communities was its greatest strength, and said preserving this diversity while strengthening the bonds of unity would be a fitting tribute to Patel.
Sai appealed to people across Chhattisgarh to follow Patel’s ideals and contribute to national unity, integrity and prosperity. He also called for collective efforts to build a strong, harmonious and developed Chhattisgarh that could play a leading role in achieving the vision of a developed India.
