TFP Bureau, Raipur, 12 May 2025: In a devastating road accident near Kharora on the Raipur-Balodabazar highway, 13 people lost their lives and 14 others sustained serious injuries after a Swaraj Mazda collided with a trailer truck near Saragaon. The victims, who were returning from a family event in Bana Banarasi village, included nine women, two girls, one boy, and a six-month-old infant.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, offering heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. “The news of this horrific accident is extremely painful. I pray for peace for the departed souls and a speedy recovery for the injured,” he stated. Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the Chief Minister announced financial aid of Rs 5 lakh for each of the deceased’s families and Rs 50,000 for each injured person. He also directed district authorities to ensure immediate relief measures and proper medical treatment for the injured, who have been admitted to the Community Health Center in Kharora and the Medical College in Raipur.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi also condoled the loss of lives and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the families of those who died and Rs 50,000 for the injured. “I am deeply pained by the loss of lives in this tragic incident. My thoughts are with the grieving families, and I wish the injured a speedy recovery,” the Prime Minister said.

President Droupadi Murmu expressed her sorrow via social media, writing, “The news of the death of many people, including women and children, in the road accident in Raipur, Chhattisgarh is extremely distressing. I extend my deepest condolences to the families and hope for the swift recovery of the injured.”
The ill-fated vehicle, carrying relatives of Puneet Sahu from Chataud village, was returning from a traditional Chauthia-Chhatti ceremony when it collided with the trailer truck (JH-05 DP 7584). The government has initiated a probe into the cause of the accident and emphasized the need for enhanced road safety measures on national highways.
