Chhattisgarh to Celebrate ‘Rice Festival’ from June 1 to 7

TFP Bureau, Raipur, May 28, 2025: Chhattisgarh is set to host its annual ‘Rice Festival’ from June 1 to June 7, during which more than 81 lakh ration card holder families will receive rice allocations for the next three months — June, July, and August — in a single distribution.

The state government has allocated rice supplies to 13,928 fair price shops statewide. Rapid stockpiling is underway to ensure smooth and timely delivery, particularly to remote and rural areas, preventing any disruption in access to food grains during the festival.

The Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department has mandated that all fair price shops prominently display information related to the rice distribution. District Collectors have been instructed to launch wide publicity campaigns at the local level to ensure every beneficiary is informed and distribution remains fully transparent.

In a review meeting held via video conference on May 28, Food Secretary Reena Babasaheb Kangale emphasized the importance of proper rice storage before the festival begins. She directed that rice distribution should be conducted in the presence of shop-level monitoring committees and that every beneficiary must be verified through biometric authentication via e-POS machines. Beneficiaries will also receive mandatory acknowledgment receipts to ensure accountability.

To address seasonal challenges, advance stocking is being prioritized at 249 fair price shops prone to becoming inaccessible during the monsoon, ensuring uninterrupted ration availability.

Civil Supplies Corporation Managing Director Kiran Kaushal and Food Department Director Ramesh Sharma were present in the meeting, along with district officials participating remotely.

This initiative aims to provide food security with transparency and convenience, leveraging technology to streamline distribution during the critical monsoon period.
