Ensure Easy Access to Chemical Fertilizers for Farmers, Says Minister Kedar Kashyap

TFP Bureau, Raipur, June 2, 2025: Cooperative Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap today emphasized the urgent need to ensure the smooth and easy availability of chemical fertilizers to farmers across Chhattisgarh. During a comprehensive review meeting with senior officials of the Cooperative Department held at Mahanadi Mantralaya Bhawan, Minister Kashyap underlined the responsibility of cooperative societies to maintain adequate storage and timely distribution of fertilizers, particularly ahead of the Kharif season.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to supporting farmers, Shri Kashyap said, “Farmers should not have to wander in search of fertilizers. Strict monitoring will be enforced to prevent any irregularities in private sector shops, and action will be taken against black marketing or overpricing.” He also urged awareness campaigns to promote the use of alternative fertilizers alongside DAP.

The meeting revealed that the target for cooperative fertilizer supply for Kharif 2025 is set at 10.72 lakh metric tonnes, of which 4.10 lakh tonnes (38.23%) have been stored so far. Distribution is ongoing, with 1.57 lakh metric tonnes already delivered to farmers. Currently, 2.52 lakh metric tonnes remain available within cooperative societies.

Minister Kashyap also issued directives to form multi-dimensional cooperative societies in every Gram Panchayat to strengthen rural cooperation and foster prosperity. Presently, the state has 11,650 Gram Panchayats, with 2,058 PACS, 1,958 fisheries, 1,009 milk, and 1,055 minor forest produce cooperatives registered. The government aims to establish an additional 1,175 milk, 120 fisheries, and 532 PACS societies this year.

On the financial front, the Minister reviewed the loan disbursement for the Kharif season, noting that out of the Rs 7,800 crore target, Rs 2,241 crore has already been distributed to approximately 4.9 lakh farmers. Officials were instructed to complete audits of all cooperative societies by June 30 to ensure transparency and efficiency.

The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Subrat Sahu, Secretary CR Prasanna, MD Markfed Kiran Kaushal, Director Agriculture Rahul Dev, Apex MD K.N. Kande, Additional Commissioner Hitesh Doshi, and other senior officials.
