TFP Bureau, New Delhi, June 23, 2025: In a major step towards global collaboration in the mining sector, Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) today welcomed a high-level delegation from Chile’s state-owned copper giant CODELCO (Corporación Nacional del Cobre) at its headquarters in New Delhi. The visit marks the first-of-its-kind technical exchange mission between India and Chile in the copper mining industry.
The delegation, comprising five mining and technology experts from CODELCO, has arrived for an extensive three-week visit. During their stay, they will conduct detailed assessments of HCL’s mining, exploration, processing, and tailing management operations across its units spread throughout India. The visit aims to explore avenues for knowledge sharing, technology transfer, and operational value addition for both organizations.
The visiting team includes:

This landmark exchange follows the historic signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Hindustan Copper Limited and CODELCO earlier this year. The MoU was formalized in the presence of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Chilean President Mr. Gabriel Boric Font on April 1, 2025. The agreement outlines a comprehensive framework for mutual cooperation in exploration, mining technology, mineral beneficiation, and skill development.
The MoU was signed by HCL Chairman and Managing Director Mr. Sanjiv Kumar Singh and CODELCO Chief Executive Officer Mr. Ruben Alvarado Vigar. The partnership is expected to foster innovation, boost operational efficiency, and strengthen bilateral ties in the mining sector, while also contributing to skill enhancement and capacity building for both Indian and Chilean workforce.
This collaboration marks an important milestone as India seeks to leverage global expertise to unlock its mineral wealth and develop a more sustainable and technologically advanced mining sector.
