TFP Bureau, Raipur, July 11, 2025: As the Kharif sowing season progresses, concerns are mounting across Chhattisgarh over the unavailability of fertilizers in cooperative societies. Senior spokesperson of the State Congress Committee, Shri Surendra Verma, has sharply criticized the BJP-led state government, alleging deliberate mismanagement and negligence that is adversely affecting farmers.
Calling the fertilizer shortage an “anti-farmer conspiracy,” Verma stated that the crucial sowing period is slipping away, yet DAP (Di-Ammonium Phosphate) remains out of reach for many cultivators. “Farmers are left anxious and helpless. First, the government spoke of offering NPK as an alternative, and now it is making hollow promises about Nano DAP. The truth is that the government doesn’t want farmers to get full yield so that it can reduce the quantity of paddy procurement at Minimum Support Price,” he alleged.
According to Verma, farmers had submitted their fertilizer requirements well in advance—by April—but the administration failed to arrange sufficient fertilizer stocks or ensure timely supply to cooperative societies. “This is not a lapse, it’s deliberate. An artificial crisis has been created right at the peak of the Kharif season,” he claimed.
The Congress leader further alleged rampant black marketing of DAP fertilizer, citing that private dealers are charging up to ₹2,000 per bag. He said hoarders and black marketers are operating with government protection, which is why the Agriculture Department is not taking any corrective action.
Verma also accused BJP leaders of ignoring farmers’ plight, saying, “While farmers across the state are protesting due to fertilizer scarcity, ministers and party leaders are busy posting hollow statements on social media instead of ensuring supply.”
Highlighting the severity of the crisis in tribal-dominated Bastar and Surguja divisions, Verma said farmers in these regions are being given only assurances. “Due to the government’s failure, poor and marginal farmers are falling prey to exploitation by private sellers. Last year, expired Nano urea was found being sold in government outlets. This time too, low-quality and adulterated fertilizers are reportedly being circulated,” he added.
Blaming the BJP’s “double engine government,” Verma questioned why the state, despite its legitimate entitlements, is unable to secure adequate fertilizer supply from the Centre. “Even DAP fertilizer is not being delivered as per the rightful share and demand of Chhattisgarh,” he said, demanding immediate intervention and corrective measures to protect the interest of farmers.
