TFP Bureau, Raipur, August 15, 2025 – Chhattisgarh on Friday joined the nation in celebrating the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervour, unity and grandeur. From the capital Raipur to every district headquarters, towns and villages, the tricolour was hoisted with pride, followed by parades, cultural performances and ceremonies that reflected both the glorious freedom struggle and the progress of a modern Chhattisgarh.
The state-level main function was held at the Police Parade Ground in Raipur, where Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai hoisted the national flag at 9 am. After taking the salute of an impressive parade by the police and security personnel, the Chief Minister addressed the gathering and extended greetings to the people of the state. He spoke of the sacrifices made by freedom fighters and reiterated the government’s commitment towards development, inclusivity and good governance.

During the function, 25 police personnel were honoured with gallantry medals, President’s medals and commendable service medals in recognition of their courage and extraordinary service. A horse show, police band display, and colourful cultural programmes added splendour to the ceremony, creating an atmosphere of pride and celebration.


Across the state, ministers, MPs and MLAs hoisted the national flag at district headquarters as part of the official celebrations. Union Minister of State Tokhan Sahu unfurled the tricolour at Bastar district headquarters, Deputy Chief Minister Arun Saw in Bilaspur, and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma in Durg. Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh presided over the event in Rajnandgaon, while senior ministers Ramvichar Netam, Dayaldas Baghel, Kedar Kashyap, Lakhan Lal Dewangan, Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, and O.P. Choudhary led the ceremonies in Surguja, Gariaband, Balod, Korba, Jashpur and Raigarh respectively.
Women and Child Development Minister Laxmi Rajwade hoisted the flag in Surajpur, Revenue Minister Tankaram Verma in Janjgir-Champa, and other Members of Parliament and legislators, including Brijmohan Agrawal, Vijay Baghel, Santosh Pandey, Chintamani Maharaj, Roopkumari Chaudhary, Radheshyam Rathia, Kamlesh Jangde, Mahesh Kashyap, Bhojraj Nag and Devendra Pratap Singh, led functions across Balodabazar, Bemetara, Kawardha, Balrampur, Mahasamund, Sarangarh, Sakti, Bijapur, Kanker and Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai.
MLAs Punnulal Mohle, Dharamlal Kaushik, Amar Agrawal, Ajay Chandrakar, Renuka Singh, Lata Usendi, Vikram Usendi, Rajesh Munat, Kiran Dev and Dharamjeet Singh hoisted the flag at Mungeli, Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, Korea, Dhamtari, Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur, Kondagaon, Narayanpur, Mohla-Manpur-Ambagadh Chowki, Dantewada and Sukma district headquarters, ensuring participation of leaders at every corner of the state.

In the capital, Independence Day was further marked with the inauguration of a week-long photo exhibition at the Town Hall by Chief Minister Sai. Organized by the Public Relations Department, the exhibition features illustrated biographies and documents of Chhattisgarh’s freedom fighters, highlighting the region’s invaluable contribution to India’s freedom struggle. It also showcases achievements of government schemes and uses virtual reality to present the state’s cultural heritage. A quiz competition, “Kon Banhi Guniya,” was also launched for students and youth.

Adding to the festive spirit, the CRPF organized a special band display at Marine Drive in Raipur during the evening hours. Patriotic and cultural tunes performed by the CRPF band filled the air, attracting families, students and visitors who joined in the celebrations along the riverfront. Officials said the programme was aimed at creating a shared atmosphere of patriotism and joy among the citizens.


Independence Day celebrations extended beyond formal ceremonies, with schools, colleges, government offices, and local communities across Chhattisgarh holding flag hoisting, cultural performances, essay competitions and awareness programmes. Streets and government buildings in cities and villages were decorated with lights and tricolour-themed displays, while processions and community gatherings further strengthened the sense of unity.
The 79th Independence Day in Chhattisgarh stood as a testament to both the state’s proud history and its aspirations for the future. With the national flag unfurled by the Chief Minister, ministers, MPs and MLAs across every district headquarters, and with exhibitions, cultural programmes and public participation adding vibrancy, the celebrations highlighted the spirit of freedom, equality and progress that binds every citizen of the state.
