ICGEB New Delhi Marks First Anniversary of BioE3 Policy with Industry–Research Dialogue

TFP Bureau, New Delhi, September 6, 2025: The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), New Delhi, celebrated the first anniversary of the BioE3 Policy by hosting BioE3@1, an event that brought together leading research institutions and industry leaders to strengthen India’s bioeconomy. The BioE3 Policy, approved by the Union Cabinet in 2024, integrates Biotechnology with Economy, Environment, and Employment, and is a key pillar of India’s journey toward sustainability and inclusive growth.

Themed “Institute–Industry Interaction for Climate Resilient Agriculture and Clean Energy,” the programme focused on accelerating the transition of innovations from laboratory research to market applications. Participating institutions included the National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI), Mohali; the National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR), New Delhi; the National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NIAB), Hyderabad; the Institute of Pesticide Formulation Technology (IPFT), Gurugram; and the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), Faridabad.

Industry leaders from Balram Chinni Mills, Prasad Seeds Pvt. Ltd., Nuziveedu Seeds Pvt. Ltd., Bioseeds, Mankind Agro, and Insecticides India Ltd. also joined the event, underscoring the growing collaboration between research and industry in advancing biotechnology applications.

The programme was divided into two sessions. The first showcased cutting-edge technologies and ongoing research in climate-resilient agriculture and clean energy, with directors of the collaborating institutes presenting innovative solutions to national and global sustainability challenges. The second session featured an industry panel moderated by Dr. Ramesh V. Sonti, Director of ICGEB New Delhi. Panelists including Shri Praveen Gupta (Balram Chinni Mills), Shri Arvind Kumar (Prasad Seeds Pvt. Ltd.), Dr. Seetharam Annadana (Nuziveedu Seeds), Dr. Ajay Kumar (Bioseeds), Dr. Anupam Acharya (Mankind Agro), and Shri Shekhar Bisht (Insecticides India Ltd.) deliberated on strengthening academia–industry linkages and promoting faster commercialization of research outcomes.

An exhibition on the sidelines displayed innovations in agri-biotech, sustainable energy, animal health, and pesticide formulation, offering industry stakeholders insights into the applied potential of emerging technologies.

The BioE3 Policy, designed to elevate India’s bioeconomy, plays a central role in the country’s mission to achieve Net Zero carbon emissions by 2070. By linking biotechnology with environmental protection, economic growth, and employment generation, the policy reflects a transformative approach to national development.

Officials and participants emphasized that the first anniversary of BioE3 not only marked progress made in the past year but also reaffirmed the policy’s role in positioning India as a global leader in bio-innovation and sustainable development.
