TFP Bureau, New Delhi, October 6, 2025 – President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, today presented the MY Bharat–National Service Scheme (NSS) Awards for the year 2022–23 at a grand ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The event marked a celebration of the spirit of youth volunteerism, social service, and nation-building through collective community efforts.
The MY Bharat–National Service Scheme is one of the Government of India’s flagship initiatives designed to shape the character and leadership of students through voluntary community engagement. Established in 1969 during the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi, the scheme embodies his ideals of selfless service and social responsibility. Over the decades, the NSS has become a powerful platform for young people to contribute to grassroots development, civic awareness, and national integration.
The MY Bharat–NSS Awards, instituted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in 1993–94, recognize outstanding individual and institutional contributions in the field of community service. The awards are conferred on NSS volunteers, programme officers, and universities or senior secondary councils that have demonstrated exceptional commitment toward community development, environmental protection, disaster relief, health awareness, and education outreach.
Addressing the award ceremony, President Droupadi Murmu lauded the exemplary dedication of the awardees, emphasizing that their efforts reflect the collective energy and compassion of India’s youth. She noted that through initiatives like MY Bharat and the NSS, young citizens are helping bridge social divides and building a more equitable and progressive society. “The youth of our country are the torchbearers of transformation,” she said. “By serving society selflessly, they are not only fulfilling the dreams of Mahatma Gandhi but also advancing the vision of a Viksit Bharat.”
The President also commended the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for creating avenues that channel the enthusiasm of young Indians into meaningful social impact. She highlighted that MY Bharat, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a technology-driven platform for youth engagement, has strengthened the institutional support for voluntary action and civic participation across the nation.
This year’s awardees included outstanding NSS volunteers who have worked tirelessly in diverse fields such as women’s empowerment, rural development, environmental conservation, and public health awareness. Many of the honorees have also played pivotal roles in spreading digital literacy, promoting cleanliness under the Swachh Bharat Mission, and supporting communities during natural calamities.
The ceremony concluded with the President interacting with the awardees, commending their leadership and commitment to national service. Senior officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, NSS coordinators, and university representatives attended the event.
The presentation of the MY Bharat–NSS Awards 2022–23 once again underlines the government’s recognition of youth as the driving force of national progress. As the President remarked, “The strength of India lies in the hands of its young volunteers—who serve not for reward, but for responsibility.”
