Nation Celebrates 150th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel with Pledge for Unity and Major Development Push

TFP Bureau, Raipur/New Delhi, October 30, 2025:
The nation is set to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India and the architect of national integration, with grand events and commemorative initiatives across the country on October 31. From the Prime Minister’s inauguration of key development projects in Kevadia, Gujarat, to statewide observances in Chhattisgarh, the occasion marks a reaffirmation of the ideals of unity, integrity, and nation-building that Sardar Patel epitomized.

In Chhattisgarh, the state government has announced a series of programs to commemorate the occasion as part of “National Unity Day.” Acting on the directives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Home Department has been designated as the nodal agency for organizing the celebrations. At 10:30 AM on October 31, all government offices, educational institutions, and local bodies across the state will hold a National Unity Pledge ceremony, where officials, employees, students, and citizens will take an oath to uphold the nation’s unity and integrity.

To spread awareness about the life, contributions, and vision of Sardar Patel, the state will also host “Run for Unity” events, essay and debate competitions, youth rallies, exhibitions, and public awareness campaigns. These initiatives will continue throughout the year, from October 2025 to October 2026, as part of an extended outreach effort to strengthen the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.”

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, in his message, stated that Sardar Patel’s life and work remind citizens that unity is the greatest strength of the nation. He described Patel’s resolve and leadership as instrumental in uniting India after independence, and urged citizens to dedicate themselves to protecting the nation’s unity, integrity, and security.

Meanwhile, in Kevadia, Gujarat — home to the Statue of Unity — Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the eve of the historic occasion by unveiling and laying foundation stones for development projects worth ₹1,219 crore. These projects include the Birsa Munda Bhavan, a tribute to the tribal icon Bhagwan Birsa Munda; a residential complex for GSEC and SSNNL employees; the first phase of a new hospitality district; and a state-of-the-art Bonsai Garden.

The Prime Minister also flagged off a fleet of electric buses to promote sustainable and eco-friendly transport for visitors in the region, reinforcing Kevadia’s emergence as a global tourism and environmental destination. He emphasized that such initiatives reflect India’s commitment to clean energy and green mobility.

Adding to the momentous celebrations, Shri Modi released a special commemorative coin and postage stamp in honour of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. These releases symbolize the nation’s deep respect for Patel’s monumental role in the political and territorial integration of India following independence.

During his visit, the Prime Minister also met members of Sardar Patel’s family in Kevadia, describing the interaction as a deeply emotional moment. He later attended a grand cultural programme that artistically depicted Sardar Patel’s life journey—from his leadership during India’s freedom movement to his decisive role in uniting more than 500 princely states into the Indian Union.

Taking to social media, the Prime Minister shared his reflections on the day’s events, calling the development works a “boost to Kevadia’s infrastructure.” He reiterated that the newly inaugurated facilities would enhance tourism, sustainability, and public amenities in the region surrounding the world’s tallest statue, which itself stands as a towering symbol of national unity.

The celebrations across India—from the Prime Minister’s initiatives in Kevadia to the pledges and unity runs across states like Chhattisgarh—embody the enduring legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. They serve as a reminder of his indomitable spirit, visionary leadership, and unifying force that laid the foundation of a strong, integrated, and self-reliant India.
