TFP Bureau, Raipur, November 9, 2025: The Legal Aid and Social Services Committee and the Centre for Law & Indigenous Studies of Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur, conducted a field visit and legal awareness workshop at Borid village in Mahasamund district, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Mahasamund, and Nirmaya Cancer Foundation.
A team of 34 student volunteers and five faculty members visited the village to survey households and understand local socio-economic, health, and educational challenges. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. V.C. Vivekanandan said such initiatives expose students to ground realities and strengthen their understanding of tribal communities.
During the workshop, village Sarpanch Ajaymangal Singh Dhruw welcomed the team and outlined issues including inadequate infrastructure, limited healthcare access, and women’s hardships. Faculty members highlighted the importance of legal aid and engagement with indigenous communities. DLSA representatives explained how villagers could access free legal services and addressed topics such as petty offenses, domestic issues, and alcohol abuse. Villagers shared that alcohol consumption is prohibited in the village and domestic violence is discouraged. Awareness pamphlets were distributed, and Nirmaya Foundation representatives spoke about women’s health and hygiene. Stationery was distributed to village children.
The team surveyed 52 households, identifying key problems: poor roads, lack of safe drinking water, absence of internet connectivity, irregular medical facilities, and limited schooling up to Class 5. The visit underscored the need for continued legal outreach to strengthen awareness of rights and welfare schemes. The team expressed gratitude to the university administration for its support.
