TFP Bureau, Raipur, November 12, 2025: Chhattisgarh has achieved a remarkable distinction in the field of water conservation and management, winning three prestigious honors at the Sixth National Water Awards announced by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India. The awards were declared by Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil, recognizing outstanding contributions toward sustainable water management across the country.

Under the 2024 edition of the awards, Rajnandgaon district has been named Best District (Eastern Zone), Doomarpani Gram Panchayat of Kanker district has secured third place in the Best Panchayat category, and Krishna Public School, Raipur, has been honored as the Best Institution (School category). Each winner will receive a citation, a trophy, and, in some cases, a cash prize.

The national award ceremony will be held on November 18, 2025, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, where President Smt. Draupadi Murmu will present the honors to the winners in the presence of senior officials and dignitaries.

Expressing pride in the state’s achievement, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai congratulated the winners and said these awards reflect Chhattisgarh’s dedication to participatory and sustainable water resource management. “The state’s success demonstrates how administrative commitment and community participation can transform water conservation into a mass movement. Chhattisgarh has made significant strides toward realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Water-Samriddhi Bharat,’” he said. The Chief Minister also emphasized that the state will continue expanding its water conservation initiatives to every district and panchayat.

Promoting a Culture of Water Conservation

Launched in 2018, the National Water Awards aim to promote awareness about efficient water use, management, and conservation practices. So far, five editions have been held for the years 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023, while the 2021 edition was not conducted due to the pandemic.

For the 2024 awards, a total of 751 applications were received nationwide, out of which 46 winners were selected across 10 categories after detailed evaluation by the Central Water Commission and the Central Ground Water Board. The jury conducted field inspections before finalizing the winners based on performance and community impact.

The awards aim to inspire individuals, organizations, and local bodies to adopt sustainable water management practices and to strengthen collective responsibility toward building a “Water Prosperous India.”

With this recognition, Chhattisgarh continues to emerge as a leading example of water stewardship in India—demonstrating that visionary governance, community participation, and institutional innovation can together secure the nation’s most vital resource.
