TFP Bureau, Raipur, November 18, 2025: Chhattisgarh Finance Minister OP Choudhary inaugurated the newly developed office of the Commissioner of State Taxes (GST) on the 5th and 6th floors of the CBD Building in Nava Raipur on Tuesday. The upgraded facility, designed to enhance efficiency, coordination and citizen-centric service delivery, marks a significant step towards modernising tax administration in the state.
The inaugural event was attended by Finance Secretary Mukesh Bansal, Chamber of Commerce Chairman Satish Thaurani, CAIT National Vice President Amar Parwani, representatives of the CA and Bar Associations, and senior officers and staff from the GST headquarters and divisional offices across the state.
Addressing the gathering, the Finance Minister said that a strong economy can only be built on a foundation where trade, industry and entrepreneurship are supported through simple, transparent and collaborative tax systems. He emphasised that the role of the State GST Department extends far beyond routine revenue collection—it is central to ensuring that the benefits of reduced GST rates and tax reforms reach ordinary people in a timely manner.
He added that public welfare efforts can be strengthened only when the revenue system is robust and responsive. “The government expects GST officers to be partners in progress—resolving issues faced by traders without delay, assisting businesses with technical challenges, and ensuring that rules and procedures are communicated clearly and fairly,” he said. Officers were instructed to make field visits, hold stakeholder consultations and ensure that taxpayer grievances are resolved quickly.
GST 2.0: Transformative Reforms for Citizens and Businesses
The Finance Minister highlighted the broad objectives of the GST 2.0 regime—reducing the tax burden on citizens, boosting household consumption, strengthening small industries, increasing market competitiveness and expanding employment opportunities. The reforms, implemented nationally on September 22, have substantially lowered tax rates on essential items, education-related goods, healthcare services and several commonly used products.
He said the reforms are expected to generate annual savings of nearly ₹25,000 to ₹40,000 for the average household while increasing the income of farmers, artisans, small manufacturers and traders by 10–20 percent. These measures, he added, will help accelerate economic activity and ease the financial burden on millions of families.
Choudhary directed officials to ensure strict compliance among businesses so that the benefits of these reduced rates reflect in market prices. “The department’s foremost responsibility is to ensure that the relief announced for the public does not remain on paper. Every citizen must receive the full benefit of GST 2.0 as intended,” he said.
Outstanding Taxpayers Felicitated
During the ceremony, the government honoured high-performing taxpayers whose contributions played a significant role in strengthening the state’s revenue base. Taxpayer Appreciation Awards for 2024–25 were presented to Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, HDFC Bank, UltraTech Cement, MPCG Mobile Pvt. Ltd., NTPC, Reliance Retail Limited, Sarda & Minerals, Ministry of Railways, Bhilai Steel Plant and Abyss Foods & Protein Pvt. Ltd.
The Finance Minister commended the awardees for their discipline, compliance and consistent growth, stating that recognising such contributors encourages voluntary compliance and helps create a healthy tax culture in the state.
Modern Facility to Enhance Transparency and Public Service Delivery
Choudhary said the new GST office represents a shift towards a more transparent, accountable and technology-enabled administrative system. The facility is equipped to improve coordination among field officers, support digital monitoring, enhance taxpayer interface and streamline enforcement activities.
He added that as the state continues to expand its economic base, the department must adopt innovative methods, strengthen digital infrastructure, and ensure greater taxpayer convenience. “This new building reflects our resolve to make the GST Department more accessible, efficient and responsive,” he said.
The event concluded with a walkthrough of the new office floors, where modern workstations, data integration systems and citizen facilitation counters have been set up. Senior officials expressed confidence that the upgraded facility will significantly improve the delivery of GST-related services and help the state achieve higher levels of compliance and revenue growth.
