TFP Bureau, New Delhi, November 19, 2025: President Droupadi Murmu today graced the fifth convocation ceremony of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Delhi, urging graduating engineers to channel their skills toward innovations that positively transform society. Addressing students, faculty and dignitaries, she emphasised that the true measure of technological progress lies not merely in invention, but in the real-world benefits it delivers to people, particularly those in rural and underserved communities.
In her address, the President said NIT Delhi, despite being a relatively young institution, had earned recognition at the national level through its focus on modern infrastructure, multidisciplinary learning, research, and industry collaboration. She noted that by blending academic excellence with innovation-driven education, the institute was preparing students to meet the transformative demands of India’s rapidly evolving technological landscape.
The President highlighted with appreciation the establishment of a start-up centre at NIT Delhi, which provides students and faculty with essential resources, mentorship and networking opportunities for entrepreneurial ventures. She added that the Incubation Centre being set up on campus would further strengthen innovation by supporting students in converting ideas into market-ready solutions. Such initiatives, she said, would enable young technologists to pursue self-employment and contribute to India’s innovation economy.
Referring to India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation, President Murmu said the aspiration was not limited to economic expansion but included inclusive growth, digital empowerment, sustainability and environmental protection. She pointed to national programmes such as Digital India, Make in India, Start-up India, Skill India, Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan as examples of transformative, people-centric initiatives moving the country forward.
She stated that higher technical institutions like NITs could play a pivotal role in shaping model digital villages. These institutions, she said, can develop simple technological solutions, impart digital skills to rural populations, and collaborate with industries to enhance facilities and public services in villages.
Addressing the graduating students, President Murmu emphasised the importance of lifelong learning, innovation and research. She encouraged them to show courage in creating new technologies and to ensure that their work contributes to reducing inequalities and improving lives. Whether in sustainable energy systems, accessible technologies, or solutions for rural communities, their innovations, she said, should bring hope and opportunities to people across the country.
Expressing confidence in the future of India’s scientific workforce, the President said she was certain that the graduates of NIT Delhi would continue to uphold the institute’s values and bring pride to the nation through their contributions in the fields of science, engineering and technology.
