EVs Emerging as Engines of Clean Growth and Youth Employment: Dr Jitendra Singh

TFP Bureau, New Delhi, December 21, 2025: From protecting the environment to generating large-scale employment and entrepreneurship opportunities, electric vehicles (EVs) are rapidly driving India’s next growth story, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Dr Jitendra Singh, said on Sunday.

The Minister made these remarks during his visit to the Electric Vehicle (EV) Expo being held at Bharat Mandapam, where he reviewed a wide range of electric mobility solutions and interacted with exhibitors showcasing Make in India EV products. Touring multiple stalls at the exhibition, Dr Singh took note of the rapid technological advancements achieved by domestic manufacturers in electric vehicles, components and clean mobility solutions.

Appreciating the growing confidence and capabilities of indigenous EV companies, the Minister said the sector has emerged as a key pillar of India’s transition towards a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future. He observed that Indian manufacturers are no longer merely adopting global technologies but are increasingly contributing original innovations to the global clean mobility ecosystem.

Addressing mediapersons on the sidelines of the expo, Dr Jitendra Singh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has, from the very beginning, placed strong emphasis on environmental protection, public awareness and the promotion of e-mobility. He noted that the Prime Minister’s vision has encouraged the adoption of clean technologies while also positioning India as an active participant in the global movement towards sustainable transport and energy solutions.

Drawing a broader parallel with reforms in the clean energy sector, the Minister referred to recent policy initiatives such as the passage of the SHANTI Bill, 2025, aimed at promoting private participation in nuclear energy. He said these steps reflect the government’s holistic approach to strengthening clean, reliable and future-ready energy sources. “Electric mobility fits seamlessly into this vision, aligning environmental responsibility with India’s developmental aspirations,” he said.

Highlighting the user-friendly nature of electric vehicles, Dr Singh pointed out that EVs offer ease of driving, reduced physical effort and simplified operations compared to conventional vehicles. He noted that electric mobility has expanded far beyond personal transport and is now being widely adopted in ambulances, e-rickshaws, passenger vehicles and various commercial applications, making EVs suitable for diverse and practical mobility needs across urban and rural India.

The Minister stressed that the EV revolution is not limited to transportation or environmental benefits alone, but is also emerging as a powerful engine for entrepreneurship, employment and livelihoods, particularly for the youth. He said the government-backed ecosystem created under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership has enabled young entrepreneurs to enter the EV sector with modest initial investments. With access to technical guidance, financial support and policy incentives, many startups have been able to scale rapidly into high-turnover enterprises, he added.

Emphasising the need for wider outreach, Dr Jitendra Singh called for greater awareness among young people about the vast opportunities available in the EV value chain, ranging from manufacturing and charging infrastructure to maintenance, software and innovation-driven services. He said electric mobility offers a promising pathway towards self-reliance, innovation-led growth and sustainable development.

The EV Expo at Bharat Mandapam has brought together leading electric vehicle manufacturers, startups, technology providers and policymakers on a common platform. The event aims to showcase cutting-edge innovations, facilitate exchange of ideas and accelerate India’s journey towards clean and smart mobility, in line with the Make in India and Viksit Bharat vision.
