Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), one of India’s leading aluminium producers and a subsidiary of Vedanta Aluminium, celebrated the 77th Republic Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour at the B.R. Ambedkar Stadium in Balconagar, Chhattisgarh. The large-scale celebrations witnessed the participation of more than 6,000 people, including BALCO employees, business partners, their families and members of the surrounding communities, reflecting a strong sense of unity, diversity and collective national pride.

The celebrations began with a dignified and disciplined march past by BALCO’s security teams along with community participants, setting a tone of respect and solemnity befitting the occasion. Mr. Rajesh Kumar, CEO and Director of BALCO, unfurled the national flag and led the gathering in the singing of the national anthem, reaffirming commitment to the Constitution and democratic values of the country. A special highlight of the ceremony was the Guard of Honour led by a trans woman, symbolising BALCO’s emphasis on diversity, equity and inclusion, and reinforcing the message of equal respect and opportunity for all sections of society.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Kumar paid tribute to the dedication and discipline of BALCO’s security personnel and acknowledged the contribution of employees and partners in strengthening the organisation’s role in India’s industrial growth. He emphasised that Republic Day is not only a celebration of freedom and democracy but also a reminder of collective responsibility towards nation-building.

The patriotic atmosphere was further enriched by colourful cultural performances presented by over 1,900 students and teachers from 10 schools located in BALCO’s peripheral communities. Through well-choreographed dances, music and thematic presentations, the performers showcased India’s cultural diversity, unity in plurality and shared heritage, earning loud applause from the audience.

As part of the celebrations, BALCO organised a procession of creatively designed tableaux jointly with the community, depicting key aspects of the company’s operations and values. The tableaux highlighted critical functions such as potlines, power generation, human resources, fire safety, logistics and operational excellence. These visual presentations not only reflected the scale and technological strength of BALCO’s operations but also underscored its commitment to safety, sustainability and inclusive growth.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rajesh Kumar said that BALCO views nation-building as a shared and continuous responsibility. He stated that as a vital contributor to India’s aluminium ecosystem, the company is focused on strengthening industrial capabilities while integrating environmental stewardship, workplace safety and community development into every aspect of its operations. He added that BALCO’s long-term vision aligns with India’s development journey, including its ambitious one-million-tonne production expedition, driven by innovation, responsible practices and close collaboration with stakeholders.

The celebrations concluded with the felicitation of meritorious Class 10 and Class 12 students from participating schools, recognising academic excellence and encouraging young talent. Awards were also presented to the best parade contingents and tableaux for their outstanding presentation and discipline.
