Under Niyad Nella Nar Yojana, 14 patients from Maoist-affected interiors of Sukma receive successful eye treatment
TFP Bureau, Raipur, January 27, 2026: In a significant step towards extending quality healthcare to the remotest corners of Chhattisgarh, 14 cataract patients from interior and Maoist-affected villages of Sukma district have successfully undergone eye surgeries, restoring their vision and transforming their lives. The initiative reflects the state government’s continued focus on inclusive development, good governance and Antyodaya, as envisioned by Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai.
The patients belong to highly inaccessible villages of Konta block, including Mukarram, Patelpara, Sarpanchpara and Kistaram, areas that have long remained cut off from advanced medical facilities due to difficult terrain and security challenges. Under the state government’s flagship Niyad Nella Nar Yojana, special health camps were organised in these interior regions to identify residents suffering from cataract and other serious ailments.
Following medical screening, 14 cataract patients were selected for specialised treatment. Recognising the logistical challenges faced by residents of these forested and remote areas, the district administration made special transport arrangements to ensure their safe movement. The patients were referred to Jagdalpur Medical College, where cataract surgeries were successfully performed by specialist doctors using modern medical facilities.
After completion of the procedures, all patients were safely transported back from Jagargunda and Kistaram to the District Hospital in Sukma under the supervision of trained eye assistants and medical staff. According to doctors, the patients will remain under expert observation at the district hospital for the next four days to monitor recovery and ensure proper post-operative care. During this period, the district administration has arranged free accommodation, meals and necessary medical support for all beneficiaries.
Health officials stated that the patients are responding well to the treatment and are expected to regain normal vision in the coming days, significantly improving their quality of life and ability to carry out daily activities independently. For many beneficiaries, the restoration of eyesight has brought renewed confidence, dignity and hope after years of visual impairment.
The initiative stands as a clear example of how government welfare schemes are translating into tangible benefits on the ground. Officials emphasised that the Niyad Nella Nar Yojana is not confined to policy documents but is actively reaching the last person living in the most remote and sensitive regions of the state.
Beneficiaries and their families have expressed heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, and the district administration for the timely and compassionate intervention. The programme has reinforced public trust in the administration and demonstrated that even in areas once considered beyond the reach of governance, essential services like healthcare are now steadily making their way to those in need.
