BALCO honours 56 women achievers on International Women’s Day

IG Milena Kurre attends special townhall; ‘UnstoppabAl’ magazine launched celebrating inspiring journeys of women employees and community members

TFP Bureau Korba, March 11, 2026: Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), a leading aluminium producer and a unit of Vedanta Aluminium, celebrated International Women’s Day with a special townhall event in Balconagar, where 56 women achievers from across the organisation were felicitated for their outstanding contributions and excellence in their respective fields.

The event was graced by Inspector General of Police (IGP), Chhattisgarh, Milena Kurre as the chief guest, who praised the achievements of women across sectors and highlighted their growing leadership role in society.

On the occasion, BALCO also launched the second edition of ‘UnstoppabAl’, a special magazine that chronicles the inspiring journeys of 12 women, including employees and women from nearby communities who have benefited from the company’s initiatives. The publication highlights stories of determination, perseverance and growth, portraying women who have successfully balanced personal responsibilities while excelling in demanding professional roles.

Addressing the gathering, Rajesh Kumar, CEO and Director of BALCO, said women are playing a pivotal role in driving operational excellence and innovation within the organisation. He noted that women employees today are leading critical operations across various departments of the plant.

“Women today lead operations at the forefront of our plant, driving innovation across functions. Their commitment to excellence enables us to engineer world-class aluminium while strengthening the communities around us. As we progress towards the vision of producing one million tonnes per annum (1 MTPA), their leadership continues to shape a more inclusive BALCO and contribute to building a more empowered nation,” Kumar said.

Speaking at the event, IG Milena Kurre highlighted the expanding role of women in different fields and said their growing presence in leadership positions reflects the steady progress of the country.

“Over the years, we have proven that no task is beyond a woman’s capability. Whether it is serving in the Border Security Force or holding prominent positions as judges in the Supreme Court, women are leading with strength and purpose across every sector. Their growth reflects the steady progress of our nation, and it fills me with pride to witness this transformation,” she said.

The celebration also included a series of awareness initiatives aimed at promoting women’s health and well-being. A mental wellness awareness session was organised to encourage open conversations around emotional health and stress management, helping employees better understand the importance of mental well-being in their personal and professional lives.

In addition, a breast cancer awareness session was conducted to promote preventive healthcare among women. Experts highlighted the importance of early detection, regular health screening and awareness of warning signs, while also addressing common myths associated with the disease.

The event concluded with a vibrant cultural evening celebrating the spirit and creativity of women. The programme featured a range of performances including traditional Chhattisgarhi folk dances, contemporary cultural acts, music performances and a ramp walk showcasing the confidence and talent of participants.

An exhibition was also organised displaying creative entries submitted by employees as part of the ‘Give to Gain’ poster-making competition, reflecting themes of empowerment, equality and social awareness.

BALCO also reiterated its commitment to building an inclusive and supportive workplace for women employees. The company has implemented several initiatives aimed at increasing women’s participation in the workforce and supporting their professional growth.

These include focused skill development programmes, a dedicated crèche facility at the workplace, a one-day work-from-home provision for women employees and structured nursing breaks for new mothers.

Company officials said such initiatives help create a supportive and enabling work environment that allows women to effectively balance their professional responsibilities while continuing to grow and succeed in their careers.

Through these efforts, BALCO aims to promote gender equality and empower women within the organisation as well as in surrounding communities, contributing to broader social and economic development.
