Port call to include joint naval training, cultural engagements and exchange of critical supplies
TFP Bureau,New Delhi/Dar-es-Salaam, April 5, 2026: The frontline guided missile frigate INS Trikand of the Indian Navy arrived at Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania on April 3 as part of its ongoing operational deployment in the South West Indian Ocean Region, aimed at strengthening maritime cooperation and deepening bilateral ties between India and Tanzania.
The port call forms part of India’s continued efforts to enhance security cooperation and engagement with partner nations in the Indian Ocean Region. During the visit, the crew of INS Trikand will participate in a series of professional interactions and joint training activities with the Tanzania Navy. These engagements are designed to improve interoperability, share operational practices and promote closer maritime collaboration between the two naval forces.
Officials said the visit will also include several community and cultural outreach programmes to promote goodwill and people-to-people ties between the two countries. Friendly sports matches and yoga sessions have been planned involving naval personnel from both sides, while a cultural evening will be hosted onboard the Indian warship to celebrate shared traditions and strengthen mutual understanding.
In addition to training and cultural engagements, critical stores and supplies ferried from India will be handed over during the visit as part of logistical cooperation between the two nations.
During the port call, Captain Sachin Kulkarni, Commanding Officer of INS Trikand, will meet senior dignitaries from the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces and representatives of the Government of Tanzania to further enhance defence cooperation and maritime partnership.
The visit of INS Trikand is aligned with India’s maritime vision of MAHASAGAR – Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions, which emphasises collaborative security, sustainable development and strengthened partnerships across the Indian Ocean Region.
Indian naval deployments and goodwill visits such as this are aimed at reinforcing India’s commitment to regional stability, maritime security and stronger diplomatic ties with friendly nations in the region.
