TFP Bureau, Raipur; February 17, 2024: The Chhattisgarh Government, led by Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, has earmarked Rs 300 crore in the state budget to uplift the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) across the state. This allocation aims to enhance the living conditions of communities such as Birhor, Hill Korba, Baiga, Kamar, and Abujhmaria by providing essential amenities like permanent housing and clean drinking water.
The initiative comes as part of the Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana, a landmark scheme launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in Ulihatu, the birthplace of Lord Birsa Munda. Under Chief Minister Sai’s guidance, the state government is swiftly implementing the scheme, with a recent focus on Birhor settlements in the Raigarh district.
During his visit, Chief Minister Sai interacted with members of the Birhor community, assessing the scheme’s progress and ensuring effective implementation at the grassroots level. Regular camps organized by the state government facilitate PVTGs’ access to scheme benefits, addressing challenges like inadequate access to clean water sources, notably near tribal settlements like Jhiriya.
In addition to addressing basic needs, the Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana also aims to create employment opportunities, particularly in Surguja and Bastar regions. Local entrepreneurship is being promoted to foster economic growth within tribal communities. Janman Mitras and Sakhis play a crucial role in extending scheme benefits to the grassroots level, providing assistance in local languages and ensuring seamless implementation in collaboration with administrative authorities.
