TFP Bureau, New Delhi; February 22, 2024: The Ministry of Coal’s Nominated Authority commenced the bidding process for the 9th round and the second attempt of the 7th round of commercial coal mines’ auction. This round, which commenced on December 20, 2023, witnessed robust participation from both established players and new entrants in the coal mining sector.
The bidding process unfolded online, with bids decrypted and opened electronically in the presence of the bidders. Subsequently, sealed envelopes containing offline bid documents were also opened, with the entire process displayed on screen for transparency.
In the 9th round, a total of 27 coal mines were offered for auction, attracting 33 bids against 13 coal mines. Meanwhile, the Second Attempt of the Seventh round saw 5 coal mines put up for auction, with 7 bids received against 3 coal mines.
Among the major bidders, prominent companies such as Tata Steel Ltd, JSW Steel Ltd, and Rungta Sons Pvt Ltd, were among the 27 companies vying for the coal mines.

1. Babupara East: 3 bids (Coking Coal) – 9th Round
2. Badam North: 1 bid (Coking Coal) – 9th Round
3. Baisi: 4 bids (Non-Coking Coal) – 9th Round
4. Bhatgaon-II: 1 bid (Non-Coking Coal) – 9th Round
5. Chandrauthi: 1 bid (Non-Coking Coal) – 9th Round
6. Dongeri Tal-II: 1 bid (Non-Coking Coal) – 9th Round
7. Dumri: 6 bids (Non-Coking Coal) – 9th Round
8. Duni Central: 2 bids (Coking Coal) – 9th Round
9. Jharpalam Thangarghat (Revised): 1 bid (Non-Coking Coal) – 9th Round
10. Lalgarh South: 3 bids (Coking Coal) – 9th Round
11. Lamatola: 5 bids (Coking Coal) – 9th Round
12. South of Damuda: 2 bids (Coking Coal) – 9th Round
13. West of Shahdol (South): 3 bids (Non-Coking Coal) – 9th Round
14. Mahan: 3 bids (Non-Coking Coal) – Second Attempt-7th Round
15. Mara II Mahan: 2 bids (Non-Coking Coal) – Second Attempt-7th Round
16. Thesgora-B/ Rudrapuri: 2 bids (Non-Coking Coal) – Second Attempt-7th Round
The bids received will now undergo evaluation by a multi-disciplinary Technical Evaluation Committee. Technically qualified bidders will then proceed to participate in the electronic auction, scheduled to be conducted on the MSTC portal. This marks a significant step forward in the process of commercial coal mining in Chhattisgarh, furthering the state’s energy sector development agenda.
