BALCO Conducts Fire Emergency Mock Drill at Metal Division Petrol Pump

Exercise held on National Workers’ Day to strengthen emergency preparedness and industrial safety

TFP Bureau, Balconagar, May 2, 2026: Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), a subsidiary of Vedanta Aluminium Limited, conducted a fire emergency mock drill at the petrol pump area within its Metal Division to assess preparedness for fire incidents and casualty management. The exercise was organised on the occasion of International Workers’ Day, highlighting the company’s commitment to employee safety and industrial safety awareness.

The mock drill was conducted in the presence of Vijay Singh Potai, Deputy Director of Industrial Health and Safety, Korba district, representing the district administration. The exercise aimed to strengthen the emergency response mechanism, enhance coordination among response teams, and ensure adherence to established industrial safety protocols.

During the drill, a simulated fire outbreak was created at the petrol dispensing unit to test the preparedness of operational and emergency teams. The scenario also included a casualty management component to evaluate rescue and medical response systems.

According to officials, the operator immediately raised the alarm and used available fire extinguishers to control the situation in accordance with emergency procedures. The Central Control Room was simultaneously informed, following which the fire, rescue, medical, and security teams were promptly mobilised to the site.

All emergency teams reached the location within the stipulated response time and carried out firefighting, rescue, and medical operations in a coordinated manner. The simulated casualty was safely evacuated from the site, administered first aid, and later referred for further medical examination.

BALCO’s Emergency Leadership Team actively participated in the exercise. Key officials present included R. K. Singh, who served as Chief Incident Controller; Shubham Bhardwaj; Basant Kumar; and Bhartendu Kamal Pandey.

Praising the initiative, Vijay Singh Potai said regular mock drills play a crucial role in strengthening industrial safety standards and ensuring readiness to handle real-life emergency situations. He also commended BALCO for its quick response system and the effective coordination demonstrated by its emergency teams during the exercise.
