Chhattisgarh to Celebrate School Admission Festival from June 16

State directs schools to complete repairs by June 15, welcome new students with traditional ceremonies, and ensure an attractive learning environment under NEP 2020

TFP Bureau, Raipur, June 12,2026: The Chhattisgarh government will celebrate the School Admission Festival (Shala Pravesh Utsav) 2026 across the state from June 16, aiming to encourage enrolment, improve learning environments and ensure greater community participation in education in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The School Education Department has issued detailed guidelines for the statewide campaign, with Secretary Dr. Kamalpreet Singh directing officials to prepare schools for the new academic session by creating clean, attractive and child-friendly campuses.

As part of the initiative, newly enrolled students will be accorded a traditional welcome with tilak ceremonies, while eligible children will receive free textbooks, uniforms and bicycles under various government schemes.

To generate public awareness, the department has instructed authorities to organize announcements in villages and urban wards, display banners and posters, and conduct rallies encouraging school enrolment. Local public representatives, School Development Committees, parents and community members will be actively involved in the celebrations.

The department has also ordered that all repair and maintenance work in school buildings, classrooms and campuses be completed by June 15, before the reopening of schools. Educational institutions have been asked to develop “print-rich” environments by displaying learning materials, illustrations and informative content on walls to make classrooms more engaging for students.

Special emphasis has been placed on ensuring smooth admissions and bringing out-of-school children back into the education system. Admission to Class 1 will be facilitated using enrolment lists obtained from Anganwadi centres, while students completing Class 5 will be admitted to Class 6 through coordinated transfer certificate arrangements with primary schools.

Officials have also been directed to identify school dropouts and reintegrate them into mainstream education. The department has called for 100 per cent attendance of students and teachers and instructed subject teachers to prepare academic plans for the first three months of the new session.

During the festival, meritorious students who excelled in board and local examinations, along with exemplary parents, will also be honoured. The campaign encourages voluntary contributions from citizens in the form of educational materials such as slates, notebooks, pencils, geometry boxes and school bags.

Support from self-help groups, health workers, retired employees and local communities will be mobilised to make the programme a participatory initiative.

The School Education Department clarified that no separate budget has been allocated for the festival and instructed districts to organise the events using available local resources. Joint Directors, District Education Officers, District Mission Coordinators, DIET Principals and Block Education Officers have been asked to conduct regular inspections and provide academic guidance to ensure effective implementation.

Secretary Dr. Kamalpreet Singh expressed confidence that with the active involvement of officials, teachers and the community, the School Admission Festival would strengthen enrolment, improve educational outcomes and contribute to a successful 2026–27 academic session across Chhattisgarh.
