Asia Cup Hero Avi Manikpuri Meets Chief Minister Sai

Under-18 hockey star felicitated for helping India clinch gold in Japan; CM says Chhattisgarh’s young athletes are raising the state’s profile on the global stage

TFP Bureau, Raipur, June 14,2026: Under-18 Asia Cup-winning hockey player Avi Manikpuri paid a courtesy visit to Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai at the Chief Minister’s residence office in Raipur on Sunday, where he was congratulated for his contribution to India’s historic triumph in the continental tournament.

Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Sao was also present during the meeting.

Congratulating the young hockey player, Chief Minister Sai praised Avi Manikpuri’s achievement and said that talented sportspersons from Chhattisgarh are bringing laurels to both the state and the nation through their dedication, discipline, and outstanding performances at national and international levels.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that Avi would continue to excel and contribute to taking Indian hockey to greater heights. He said the player’s success serves as an inspiration for the youth of Chhattisgarh, demonstrating that with determination and the right opportunities, local talent can shine on the global stage.

Highlighting the state government’s commitment to sports development, Sai said continuous efforts are being made to strengthen sports infrastructure, improve facilities, and provide athletes with the resources needed to nurture their potential. These initiatives, he noted, are creating new avenues for young sportspersons to pursue excellence.

A resident of Bilaspur, Avi Manikpuri is regarded as one of the emerging talents in Indian hockey. He recently played a key role in India’s victorious campaign at the Under-18 Asia Cup held in Japan, where the Indian team produced a dominant performance throughout the tournament to secure the gold medal.

Among those present on the occasion were Chhattisgarh Hockey Association President Firoz Ansari, General Secretary Dr. Manish Srivastava, and international hockey player Mrinal Chaubey.
