Chief Minister Inaugurates Dumartarai Wholesale Market Phase II, Announces It Will Be Named After Sardar Patel

Modern commercial complex expected to boost trade, attract investment and generate employment; 15-foot statue of the Iron Man to be installed

TFP Bureau, Raipur, July 9,2026: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Wednesday inaugurated the second phase of the Dumartarai Wholesale Market in Raipur and announced that the commercial complex would be named after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He also announced the installation of a 15-foot-tall statue of the Iron Man, inspired by the Statue of Unity.

Developed by the Chhattisgarh Housing and Infrastructure Development Board, the wholesale market is expected to strengthen commercial activity, attract fresh investment and create employment opportunities across the state.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, the Chief Minister said Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel played a historic role in unifying the country, and naming the market after him would be a tribute to his contribution to nation-building.

Sai said trade and employment go hand in hand, adding that the development of modern commercial infrastructure encourages investment, expands business activities and creates new livelihood opportunities. He expressed confidence that the Dumartarai Wholesale Market would emerge as a major commercial hub, benefiting traders from Raipur and other parts of Chhattisgarh.

Spread over nearly 36 acres along National Highway-30, the market has been equipped with wide internal roads, ample parking space, organised traffic management and modern commercial facilities. The Chief Minister described it as a long-awaited project that would meet the growing needs of the trading community.

He said the state government is giving equal importance to “Ease of Living” and “Ease of Doing Business” and has introduced several reforms to create a favourable environment for trade, industry and investment. He added that the Housing and Infrastructure Development Board is playing an increasingly important role in the state’s infrastructure development beyond its traditional focus on housing.

Housing and Environment Minister O. P. Choudhary said the project reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening commercial infrastructure. He noted that the vision for a modern wholesale market at Dumartarai, first conceived in 2010, has now become a reality and will provide better facilities to traders while easing traffic congestion in Raipur.

Chairman of the Chhattisgarh Housing and Infrastructure Development Board Anurag Singh Deo said the project demonstrates the Board’s commitment to quality infrastructure and public service, and would contribute to trade, investment, employment generation and economic growth.

The event was attended by Skill Development, Technical Education and Employment Minister Guru Khushwant Saheb, Rajya Sabha MP Lakshmi Verma, MLAs Motilal Sahu and Purandar Mishra, representatives of trade organisations and members of the business community.

The Dumartarai Wholesale Market has been developed in two phases. The first phase included the construction of 536 commercial shops and halls at a cost of about ₹76 crore, while the second phase comprises 154 independent commercial shops built at an estimated cost of ₹145 crore. With both phases now complete, the state has a modern wholesale market equipped with comprehensive commercial infrastructure.
