Free lifelong insulin initiative aims to ease financial burden on families and strengthen healthcare support for children
TFP Bureau, Ahmedabad, August 28, 2026: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah celebrated Raksha Bandhan in Ahmedabad with girls from his parliamentary constituency who are living with Type-1 diabetes, highlighting the importance of healthcare support and the well-being of children.
Shah said children with Type-1 diabetes require insulin injections throughout their lives, often placing a significant financial burden on their families. He said the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is providing free insulin for life to children affected by the condition.
In a post on X, Shah said he had celebrated the festival with the daughters of his parliamentary constituency and described the free-insulin initiative as an expression of the government’s commitment to “Service, Compassion, and Security”.
He extended his Raksha Bandhan greetings to the girls and wished them good health and a bright future.
Integrated healthcare system for children
Under the initiative being implemented in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, children aged up to 18 years living with Type-1 diabetes are being brought under an integrated healthcare system.
The system covers screening, diagnosis, insulin and treatment, monitoring and follow-up, with the objective of ensuring access to essential insulin and continuous medical support.
The initiative seeks to provide comprehensive care to children with Type-1 diabetes while reducing the long-term financial burden on their families.
‘Health of daughters is linked to society’s future’
Speaking on the occasion, Shah said public service was not merely a responsibility for the government but a guiding principle of compassionate governance.
He said ensuring the health and security of daughters was essential for securing the future of families and society. Providing free insulin to children on Raksha Bandhan, he added, carried a special significance as it represented a commitment to protecting the health and well-being of daughters.
The initiative, according to Shah, reflects the government’s broader focus on accessible healthcare and support for families dealing with lifelong medical requirements.
