NLC India Inks 25-Year Solar Power Pact with Rajasthan, Aiding Carbon Emission Cut
TFP Bureau, New Delhi, August 18, 2023: NLC India Limited, a distinguished Navratna Central Public Sector Undertaking supervised by the Ministry of Coal, has taken a significant stride towards sustainable energy collaboration by entering a Long Term Power Usage Agreement with Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam Limited. The agreement, part of the CPSU Scheme, involves the supply of 300 MW Solar Power to Rajasthan over the next 25 years, heralding a pivotal move towards greener power solutions.
NLC India Limited currently boasts a 1,421 MW Renewable Energy Capacity. The company’s ambitious Corporate Plan outlines the establishment of a robust 6,031 MW capacity by 2030, signifying its unwavering commitment to renewable energy expansion.
Having clinched a 510 MW Solar Project capacity in the CPSU Scheme Phase-II Tranche-III, which was tendered by the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA), NLC India is well on its way towards fostering sustainable power solutions. The ongoing 300 MW Solar project, situated in Barsingsar, Bikaner District, Rajasthan, is under the competent execution of M/s TATA Power Solar Systems, who secured the EPC contract through competitive bidding.
The Power Usage Agreement (PUA) for the 300 MW Solar project was formally ratified on August 17, 2023, at Jaipur. The signing event was graced by notable dignitaries including Shri D.K. Jain, Director (Finance) of RUVNL, Shri D.P. Singh, GM (PBD) of NLC India Ltd, Shri Bhaskar A Sawant, Principal Secretary, Energy, Govt. of Rajasthan, Shri MM Ranwa, MD, RUVNL, and Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD, NLC India Ltd. The agreement entails the supply of solar power to Rajasthan for the forthcoming 25 years.
Anticipated to generate a robust 750 million units of power annually, the project’s green power yield will be exclusively channeled to meet the energy demands of Rajasthan. The initiative plays a pivotal role in aiding Rajasthan’s Renewable Purchase Obligation targets and catalyzing the state’s commitment to sustainable energy sourcing.
The project’s environmental impact is commendable, with an estimated reduction of approximately 0.726 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per annum. This milestone contributes substantially to the overarching goal of curbing carbon emissions and furthering the cause of sustainable energy adoption. Notably, NLC India’s foray into expanding its renewable energy footprint in states beyond Tamil Nadu adds to the organization’s commendable efforts in driving the nation’s clean energy transition.
