Certification covers five treatment modalities; government targets 1,000 certified healers by March 2027
TFP Bureau, Raipur, October 3,2026: As many as 312 traditional healers, or Vaidyas, from six districts of Chhattisgarh have been certified by the Chhattisgarh Tribal, Local Health Traditions and Medicinal Plants Board under the Forest Department.
The certification process was conducted between September 25 and 30 by the Centre for Trade Testing and Certification of Skilled Workers (CTTC), an agency authorised by the Board and the Quality Council of India.
The assessment covered five treatment modalities — general ailments, jaundice, arthritis, bone setting and treatment of venomous bites.
The two-stage certification process includes verification of applications, an oral assessment of treatment methods, identification of fresh medicinal plants and raw herbal products, and evaluation of medicine preparation and dosage practices on the first day.
On the second day, assessors observe the healer demonstrating treatment at their home and collect feedback from patients.
Of the 312 healers certified, 60 were from Kondagaon, 23 from Narayanpur, 60 from Kanker, 135 from Dhamtari and 34 from Gariaband and Mahasamund.
The state government and the Board have set a target of certifying 1,000 traditional healers by March 2027. The certification initiative is intended to formally assess and document traditional healing practices followed by practitioners in the state.
