CM says security forces’ sacrifices have helped Chhattisgarh make decisive gains against Naxalism; DGP reports 84 Naxalites killed and six police personnel martyred in a year
TFP Bureau, Raipur, October 21, 2026: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Wednesday paid tribute to police and security personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty, saying their courage and sacrifice had played a decisive role in Chhattisgarh’s fight against Naxalism and helped pave the way for peace and development in Bastar.
Addressing the Police Commemoration Day parade at the 4th Battalion of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force in Mana, Raipur, Sai laid a wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial and honoured the families of fallen personnel by presenting them with shawls, shriphal and mementoes.
He said areas of Bastar that had endured decades of violence and fear were increasingly witnessing peace, improved security and greater public trust, with development initiatives reaching remote villages.
“The sacrifice of our martyrs will continue to guide Chhattisgarh and strengthen our resolve to build a developed state,” the Chief Minister said, paying homage to personnel who had sacrificed their lives in the service of the nation and its people.
Remembering the sacrifice of police personnel
Sai recalled the events of October 21, 1959, when 10 Indian police personnel were killed in an encounter with Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh while guarding the Indo-Tibetan border. Police Commemoration Day is observed annually to honour their bravery and remember police personnel who have died in the line of duty.
He said the occasion was not only an opportunity to pay tribute to the martyrs but also to renew the commitment to their ideals of courage, discipline and national service.
Emphasising the contribution of families, Sai said every personnel serving in difficult conditions had the support of family members who shared the burden of sacrifice. The state government, he assured, would continue to support the families of the fallen personnel and recognise their contribution.
Security forces advance fight against Naxalism
The Chief Minister said the Chhattisgarh Police, District Reserve Guard (DRG), Bastar Fighters and central security forces had made an invaluable contribution to the campaign against Naxalism.
He noted that personnel had conducted operations in dense forests, rugged hills and challenging terrain, often risking their lives to restore peace and security in affected areas.
Sai credited the coordinated efforts of the Central and state governments, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, for the progress made against Naxalism.
He said the government was committed to consolidating the gains and accelerating development across Bastar and other parts of the state.
Development reaches remote tribal villages
Sai said improved security had enabled development activities to expand in areas previously affected by violence. Roads, electricity, education, healthcare, drinking water and communication facilities were gradually reaching more remote settlements.
He highlighted initiatives such as Niyad Nellanar Yojana, PM-JANMAN and the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, which aim to improve access to basic services and development programmes in underserved tribal areas.
The Chief Minister said the next priority was to sustain peace, strengthen public confidence and ensure that the benefits of development reached every eligible household.
He added that the government was also working to modernise the police force through improved technology, training, resources and welfare measures for personnel and their families.
Vijay Sharma pays homage to fallen personnel
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma also paid tribute to the police martyrs, saying their courage and dedication in protecting national security and public safety would always be remembered.
Referring to the period from September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2026, Sharma said several Chhattisgarh Police personnel had lost their lives during the fight against Naxalism. He described their sacrifice as a source of pride and inspiration for the state.
He said security personnel were not only maintaining peace in affected areas but also helping government welfare schemes and development initiatives reach ordinary citizens.
Sharma expressed condolences to the families of the martyrs, noting that their patience, courage and resilience deserved equal recognition.
DGP reports 84 Naxalites killed in one year
Director General of Police Arun Dev Gautam said coordinated operations by the Chhattisgarh Police, Central Armed Police Forces and other security agencies had led to decisive progress against armed Naxalism.
According to the DGP, 84 Naxalites were killed in anti-Naxal operations conducted by state police and central security forces between September 1, 2025, and August 31, 2026. Six Chhattisgarh Police personnel were martyred during the same period.
Gautam said Police Commemoration Day was an occasion to remember the sacrifices made by police personnel since Independence and reaffirm their commitment to the rule of law, public safety and national service.
He assured the families of the martyrs that they remained an integral part of the police family and would continue to receive the force’s support.
Tributes at Shaheed Vatika
Earlier, Sai visited Shaheed Vatika at Rajiv Smriti Van in Raipur and offered floral tributes at the Amar Jawan Stambh. He and Sharma also paid homage at the plaque bearing the names of personnel who had made the supreme sacrifice.
Sai said the bravery and dedication of the martyrs would remain etched in the collective memory of Chhattisgarh and inspire future generations to serve society and the nation.
MLA Motilal Sahu, Additional Director General of Police Vivekanand Sinha, senior police and security officials, and family members of the martyred personnel attended the commemorative events.
