Chhattisgarh Disburses Rs 10 Crore to Surrendered Naxalites, Violence-Affected Families for Housing

TFP Bureau, Raipur, May 2, 2025: In a landmark initiative to support the reintegration of surrendered Naxalites and assist families affected by Naxal violence, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai on Thursday released the first installment of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) to 2,500 beneficiaries. A total of Rs 10 crore—Rs 40,000 per family—was transferred directly to their bank accounts for construction of permanent homes.

The Central Government approved 15,000 homes for these families following a special request by the Chhattisgarh government. “We are grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for their sensitive and prompt response to our request,” said Chief Minister Sai while addressing the beneficiaries via video conference from the Ministry.

Describing the initiative as a step toward lasting peace and rehabilitation in Naxal-affected regions, Shri Sai said, “This program is not just about housing—it’s about hope, dignity, and a fresh start. The government stands by every family transitioning to the mainstream.”

He interacted virtually with families from districts such as Sukma, Bijapur, Narayanpur, Bastar, and Dantewada, encouraging them to build safe, quality homes. Beneficiaries, many of whom expressed emotional gratitude, thanked the state and central leadership for ensuring their long-awaited dream of a permanent house came true.

Deputy Chief Minister and Rural Development Minister Vijay Sharma called the day “historic,” noting that many of these families had previously been ineligible under standard PMAY norms. “Thanks to the efforts of CM Vishnu Dev Sai, these families—either victims of Naxal violence or those who surrendered arms—have now been given a new chance at life. The campaign to end Naxalism is in its final phase, and this initiative reinforces our commitment to peace in Bastar,” he said.

According to official figures, the highest number of beneficiaries—809—are from Sukma, followed by 594 in Bijapur, 316 in Narayanpur, and others across Bastar, Dantewada, Kondagaon, and Kanker districts.

Panchayat and Rural Development Secretary Niharika Barik Singh provided an update on PMAY’s implementation, stating that construction targets are being met promptly and that surveys for the next phase are underway.

Senior officials including Chief Secretary Subodh Singh and PMAY Director Taran Prakash Sinha were present during the fund transfer ceremony.
