Raipur, April 14, 2025: In a significant move to promote business and simplify regulations, the Chhattisgarh government has abolished the state-level license requirement for opening petroleum retail outlets, or petrol pumps. This change, effective from a notification issued by the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection Department on November 14, 2024, streamlines the process for entrepreneurs by aligning it solely with the Central Petroleum Act.
Simplified Process for Entrepreneurs
Previously, opening a petrol pump in Chhattisgarh involved a dual application process: entrepreneurs had to obtain licenses both from the state Food Department and the Central government, which required regular renewals and significant paperwork. The new policy removes this dual requirement, allowing businessmen to follow only the rules set by the Central government. This shift significantly reduces the time, cost, and administrative burden associated with opening a petrol pump.
Benefits for Business and Public
The new reform is expected to make it quicker and easier for entrepreneurs—especially small businesses and oil companies—to establish petrol stations across the state. This policy is particularly beneficial for rural and remote areas that have fewer petrol pumps and limited fuel access, ensuring better service availability and increased infrastructure development in these regions.
Additionally, the reduction in procedural hurdles is anticipated to encourage greater investment in the state, contributing to economic growth and job creation. By making the process more business-friendly, Chhattisgarh is aligning with its goal of fostering ease of doing business.
A Step Towards Economic Growth
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai emphasized that the government is committed to creating a conducive environment for business. “By simplifying rules and removing unnecessary barriers, we are working to facilitate industry, business, and investment in Chhattisgarh. This decision will not only benefit businessmen but will also improve public services by ensuring better access to fuel and strengthening the state’s economy.”
With the simplification of the petrol pump licensing process, Chhattisgarh is set to enhance fuel accessibility and attract more businesses, making it an even more attractive destination for investment.
