Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai Reviews Irrigation Projects

TFP Bureau, Raipur, May 13, 2025: Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai today conducted an extensive review of the Water Resources Department’s functioning, aiming to enhance the state’s irrigation infrastructure and ensure better water utilization for agricultural purposes. During the meeting at his residence office, Shri Sai emphasized the importance of maintaining and repairing existing irrigation projects to optimize their effectiveness.

The Chief Minister instructed senior officers to regularly inspect the irrigation projects on the ground to monitor the progress and ensure that water wastage is minimized. He stressed the need to make the most efficient use of available water in agricultural activities.

Reviewing the status of dams and irrigation schemes across the state, Chief Minister Shri Sai highlighted the importance of utilizing modern technologies to reduce losses in water transportation through canals. He directed the preparation of a comprehensive action plan, focusing on the use of underground pipelines to improve water delivery efficiency. The Chief Minister also instructed the Water Resources Department to bridge the gap between the designed and actual irrigation capacity in various schemes.

Furthermore, he urged that special attention be given to completing long-pending irrigation projects in Bastar and Surguja divisions. Shri Sai emphasized the urgency of finishing the major ongoing projects so that farmers can benefit from the schemes without further delays. He also instructed the department to submit proposals to the Government of India for financial assistance for large-scale projects and to prepare plans for new projects in 26 development blocks facing groundwater issues.

Water Resources Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap, present at the meeting, gave instructions to expedite the completion of major ongoing projects. Shri Rajesh Sukumar Toppo, Secretary of the Water Resources Department, briefed the Chief Minister on the department’s activities and provided updates on both the ongoing and proposed irrigation schemes.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Mr. Amitabh Jain, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Mr. Subodh Singh, Special Secretary Finance Mrs. Sheetal Shashwat Verma, Chief Engineer Mr. Indrajit Uike, and other senior officers from the Water Resources Department.
