PWD approves high-level bridges over Maniyari River and Donganala to improve connectivity; new structure on Takhatpur-Barela road to replace flood-prone submersible bridge
TFP Bureau, Raipur, October 24, 2026: The Chhattisgarh Public Works Department (PWD) has sanctioned ₹14.26 crore for the construction of two high-level bridges and their approach roads in Mungeli and Bilaspur districts to improve road connectivity and ensure safer travel, particularly during the monsoon.
Administrative approval for the projects was granted following the endorsement of Deputy Chief Minister and Public Works Minister Arun Sao. The department has directed officials to maintain construction quality, adhere to prescribed timelines and ensure regular monitoring of the work.
Of the total sanctioned amount of ₹14,25,97,000, ₹7,67,11,000 has been allocated for a high-level bridge over the Maniyari River on the Takhatpur-Barela road in Mungeli district. The project will replace the existing submersible bridge, which frequently disrupts traffic when river water levels rise.
The new bridge and its approach roads are expected to provide safer and more reliable connectivity along the route, reducing travel disruptions during the rainy season and offering relief to commuters and local residents.
The second project involves the construction of a high-level bridge over Donganala on the Belgahna-Konchra-Khongsara road in Bilaspur district. The PWD has sanctioned ₹6,58,86,000 for the bridge and its approach roads.
The department has instructed the Engineer-in-Chief to ensure that both projects meet prescribed technical standards and use quality construction materials. Officials have also been directed to monitor progress regularly and ensure timely completion.
The two projects are expected to strengthen road infrastructure in the adjoining areas of Mungeli and Bilaspur districts and improve access for residents who depend on these routes for daily travel and other essential activities.
