TFP Bureau, Raipur, June 15, 2025: In a major infrastructure push for the Bastar region, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved the construction of an 11.38-kilometre-long four-lane Keshkal bypass in Chhattisgarh’s Kondagaon district. The project, sanctioned at a cost of ₹307.96 crore, is aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving road safety in the hilly Keshkal Ghat section of National Highway-43 (New NH-30).
Announcing the decision on social media, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari stated that the bypass will be developed with paved shoulders, ensuring smoother and safer travel through the challenging terrain. The project is expected to significantly improve connectivity in the tribal-dominated Bastar region, which has long faced logistical hurdles due to difficult topography.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai expressed deep gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Minister Shri Gadkari for the landmark approval. “This project is a decisive step towards the development of Bastar. The double engine government at the Centre and State is committed to inclusive growth, and this bypass will help integrate remote tribal regions more closely with the mainstream,” the Chief Minister said.
He further noted that the bypass would offer an alternative route to ease vehicular pressure on urban roads, reduce traffic congestion, and help prevent accidents in the area. It is also expected to lower pollution levels, thereby contributing to environmental conservation.
The Keshkal bypass will not only enhance transport efficiency for commercial and passenger vehicles but also serve as a lifeline for locals by improving access to markets, health facilities, and educational institutions.
The project is part of the broader vision of transforming Bastar into a well-connected, economically vibrant region through targeted infrastructure investments.
