Padma Shri Poet Surendra Dubey Passes Away; CM Pays Tribute

TFP Bureau, Raipur, June 26, 2025: Padma Shri awardee and renowned Hindi poet Dr. Surendra Dubey passed away following a heart attack during treatment at ACI Hospital. A close family member confirmed the news of his demise. He was 65.

Born in Bemetara, Chhattisgarh, Dr. Dubey was not only known for his captivating humorous poetry and frequent participation in national and international Kavi Sammelans, but also served as an Ayurveda doctor and as Chairman of the Chhattisgarh State Official Language Commission. In 2010, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri for his significant contribution to Hindi literature.

His iconic line, “Tiger is still alive,” often recited with wit and wisdom, resonated widely with audiences and became a symbol of his unique poetic style. He was deeply loved across generations for bringing smiles through satire and simplicity.

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai visited the poet’s residence to pay floral tributes and offered heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. Expressing his grief, the Chief Minister said, “Dr. Surendra Dubey’s passing is an irreparable loss to the literary and cultural world. He gave a unique identity to Chhattisgarh on the national stage.”

Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma, Finance Minister Shri O.P. Choudhary, Dhamtari Mayor Shri Ramu Rohra, and several public representatives, officials, and admirers were present to pay their last respects.
