No Shortage of Alternative Fertilizers in Chhattisgarh: Government Ensures Adequate Supply Amid DAP Shortfall

TFP Bureau, Raipur, July 5, 2025: The Chhattisgarh government has taken proactive measures to address the shortage of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer ahead of the Kharif 2025 season by ensuring ample availability of alternative fertilizers like NPK, Super Phosphate, and Nano DAP. So far, the state has stored over 12.27 lakh metric tonnes of various fertilizers, guaranteeing timely distribution and uninterrupted supply to farmers across the region.

Originally, the state aimed to distribute 14.62 lakh metric tonnes of fertilizers this Kharif, including 7.12 lakh tonnes of Urea and 3.10 lakh tonnes of DAP. However, due to reduced national imports of DAP, Chhattisgarh revised its targets, increasing alternative fertilizer allocations by 4.62 lakh tonnes, bringing the new distribution target to 17.18 lakh metric tonnes.

Currently, 5.63 lakh tonnes of Urea are in storage with 3.76 lakh tonnes already distributed. The government has ensured phased urea supply aligned with paddy crop requirements from sowing to the umbilical stage. Meanwhile, storage of NPK and Super Phosphate has exceeded targets by 11,000 and 54,000 tonnes respectively, compensating for the shortfall in DAP.

To further support farmers, one lakh bottles of Nano DAP are stocked in cooperative societies, equivalent to replacing 25,000 metric tonnes of traditional DAP. The government plans to receive 2.33 lakh tonnes of fertilizers in July, including 48,850 tonnes of DAP and 34,380 tonnes of NPK, ensuring adequate stocks throughout the season.

Since April, the government has actively promoted alternative fertilizers through awareness campaigns, posters, pamphlets, and farmer training programs under the Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan. Agricultural scientists and officials have been educating farmers on the scientific application of these alternatives to maximize crop yield.

With vigilant monitoring and efficient management, Chhattisgarh is set to maintain steady fertilizer supplies during Kharif 2025, safeguarding farmers’ interests despite national shortages.
