GST Reforms Will Strengthen Economy, Empower Traders and Citizens: CM Vishnu Deo Sai

TFP Bureau, Raipur, September 9, 2025: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai today described the Goods and Services Tax (GST) as a transformative reform that has not only empowered the country’s business community but also benefited ordinary citizens, while boosting both state and national economic growth. He was speaking during an interaction at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhavan, Nava Raipur, where representatives of various business associations from across Chhattisgarh called on him to express their gratitude for the recent GST reforms.

The Chief Minister said GST, widely regarded as the most significant overhaul of India’s taxation system since independence, has injected “new energy” into trade and industry. “GST has brought relief to industries, traders, and consumers alike. It has increased transparency in taxation, strengthened compliance, and significantly improved tax collection, which in turn ensures greater resources for development,” Sai said. He emphasized that the reforms would make India more competitive in global trade and help chart a path for a stronger future economy.

Highlighting Chhattisgarh’s own progress, the Chief Minister noted that tax collection in the state had seen remarkable growth since the adoption of GST. This, he said, was directly contributing to infrastructure expansion, welfare programmes, and long-term economic development. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that every section of society benefits from the country’s economic reforms.

Representatives of trade associations lauded the reforms, stating that GST had simplified processes, reduced compliance burdens, and enabled a fairer tax environment. They also expressed confidence that the new measures would encourage business growth, improve ease of doing business, and increase state revenue without burdening small traders and consumers.

The meeting was attended by senior ministers of the state cabinet, including Finance Minister O.P. Choudhary, Industries Minister Lakhan Lal Dewangan, and Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal. Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Subodh Singh and Secretary to the Chief Minister Rahul Bhagat were also present, along with representatives from leading chambers of commerce and trade bodies.

Officials said the gathering reflected the government’s consultative approach, ensuring constant dialogue with stakeholders to improve policies. With GST reforms now in place, both industry leaders and policymakers expressed optimism about Chhattisgarh’s role in driving India’s economic growth story in the coming years.
