TFP Bureau,Raipur, July 13, 2025: Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU) welcomed Hon’ble Mr. Justice J.K. Maheshwari, Judge of the Supreme Court of India and the newly nominated Visitor of the University, on his maiden visit to the campus. He was accompanied by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, fellow Supreme Court Judge and former member of HNLU’s General and Executive Council.
The visit was marked by an interactive session as part of the Induction Programme for first-year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) students, during which both Justices addressed the new batch, sharing insights from their distinguished judicial careers and offering guidance for their academic journey.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) V.C. Vivekanandan extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries and underscored the significance of their visit in reinforcing the university’s mission of academic and institutional excellence.
In his address, Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra urged students to pursue legal education with curiosity and joy rather than stress. Advocating a simplified and practical understanding of legal concepts, he encouraged the students to remain focused and consistent while staying true to their aspirations. “Law must be understood in your own words,” he said, adding that growth happens best under the mentorship of dedicated teachers.
Justice J.K. Maheshwari, addressing the students with a philosophical and motivational tone, emphasized the moral and constitutional responsibilities of future legal professionals. “The black coat and tie symbolize dignity and peace,” he said, adding that true success in the legal field requires integrity, deep purpose, and a commitment to constitutional values.
Quoting the Sanskrit maxim Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitah (Dharma protects those who protect it), Justice Maheshwari highlighted the need for upholding constitutional morality in legal practice and governance. He urged students not only to study the law but to live by it with conviction.
Outlining a five-step approach—Reading, Writing, Discussion, Thinking, and Application—Justice Maheshwari described legal education as a transformative journey. Drawing inspiration from Swami Vivekananda, he concluded: “Take up one idea. Make that idea your life—dream of it, live it.”
The visit also saw the release of the fifth edition of the HNLU Gazette, the University’s bi-annual newsletter, by the two esteemed guests.
The programme concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Deepak Kumar Srivastava, Registrar (I/c), HNLU.
