Chhattisgarh Intensifies Battle Against Malaria Under CM Vishnu Deo Sai’s Leadership

TFP Bureau, Raipur, July 14, 2025: Chhattisgarh has stepped up its war against malaria with renewed determination, launching the 12th phase of the Malaria Mukt Chhattisgarh Abhiyan under the strong leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai. The mission-mode campaign, led by Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, is making firm strides toward the ambitious goal of a malaria-free Chhattisgarh by 2030.

Launched on June 25, the latest phase of the campaign has already reached 19,402 households across 10 districts, testing 98,594 individuals for malaria. Of these, 1,265 tested positive and were immediately provided treatment. Each patient received the first dose after being given food to enhance the medicine’s effectiveness and was issued a treatment card for proper monitoring and follow-up.

One of the most significant achievements of the campaign is the sharp 71% decline in malaria cases in Bastar division compared to 2015. The state’s Annual Parasite Index (API) has dropped from 27.40 to 7.11, showcasing the effectiveness of a data-driven, community-based, and scientific approach to disease control.

Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal remarked, “The fight against malaria is no longer just about treatment—it has evolved into a strategic battle backed by public participation. Our goals of achieving zero malaria by 2027 and a malaria-free Chhattisgarh by 2030 are steadily becoming a reality.”

Dr. Priyanka Shukla, Commissioner-cum-Director of the Health Department, emphasized the department’s focus on early detection and prompt treatment, especially of asymptomatic cases that contribute to silent transmission. “Our strategy is to cut off the disease at its source,” she said.

The campaign’s success owes much to the involvement of grassroots workers—Mitanins, Anganwadi workers, panchayats, and local volunteers—who have turned a government initiative into a mass movement. Besides testing and treatment, the campaign also promotes community awareness on malaria prevention, encouraging regular use of mosquito nets, elimination of stagnant water, and maintaining cleanliness.

This holistic and people-centric model of malaria control, initiated under the visionary leadership of CM Sai, is gaining national attention as a best practice in public health. With its combination of policy innovation, grassroots involvement, and scientific execution, Chhattisgarh is positioning itself as a pioneer in the nationwide fight against malaria.
