Chhattisgarh Urges Speedy Completion of Nagpur-Jharsuguda Gas Pipeline

TFP Bureau, Raipur, July 17, 2025:Chhattisgarh’s Commerce, Industry, and Labour Minister Shri Lakhan Lal Dewangan has called for the expeditious completion of the Nagpur–Jharsuguda Natural Gas Pipeline, emphasizing its significance in bringing piped gas to major urban centers of the state. The request was made during the Energy Dialogue held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, chaired by Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Shri Hardeep Singh Puri.

The 692-km-long pipeline, which forms a critical part of India’s expanding gas grid, has already seen 690 km completed. Minister Dewangan urged swift completion of the remaining two kilometers to operationalize the city gas distribution network in key cities like Raipur, Bhilai-Durg, Korba, Raigarh, Bilaspur, and Rajnandgaon. “This will enable direct gas supply to households and boost urban energy access,” he said.

Key Projects in Focus: Vizag-Raipur Pipeline, LNG and CBG Plants in Bastar

The meeting also reviewed other key gas infrastructure projects in Chhattisgarh, including the recently initiated 540-km-long Visakhapatnam-Raipur gas pipeline. Once completed, this project will further enhance the smooth delivery of natural gas across central India.

Minister Dewangan informed that high-priority discussions were held on establishing Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plants in Bastar. CREDA had earlier requested 15–20 acres of land for a CBG plant, and the land allotment is currently under process. In addition, 2.5 acres of land has already been allotted by the Bastar Collector on the Jagdalpur–Nagarnar Road for an upcoming LNG station.

CSIDC Managing Director Shri Vishwesh Kumar and Executive Director Shri Alok Trivedi were also present during the deliberations.

Minister Dewangan expressed hope that with the Centre’s support, these strategic projects will soon become operational, significantly enhancing energy accessibility, promoting industrial development, and creating new economic opportunities in the state.
