TFP Bureau, Jaipur, July 19, 2025: Highlighting Rajasthan’s rise as a global clean energy hub, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Joshi, inaugurated the 435 MW Gorbea Solar Power Project developed by Zelestra India. The project stands as a testament to rapid execution and sustainable energy growth in the state.
Spanning 1,250 acres and backed by a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India, the Gorbea plant will produce 755 gigawatt-hours of clean electricity annually. This output will power approximately 1.28 lakh homes and reduce carbon emissions by nearly 7.05 lakh tonnes every year.
Shri Joshi emphasized that about 70 percent of Rajasthan’s installed power capacity now comes from renewable sources—35.4 GW in total—with solar contributing 29.5 GW and wind 5.2 GW. He praised the state’s proactive policies that have made it a leader in India’s clean energy revolution.
A notable feature of the project is its partnership with local farmers, whose leased land forms the plant’s site, providing them with stable income and positioning them as energy contributors. The construction phase also generated employment for over 700 local workers, fostering skill development.

The project incorporates advanced technologies, including TOPCon bifacial mono PERC solar panels and more than 1,300 robotic cleaning units to maximize efficiency. Shri Joshi called the facility world-class and encouraged further innovation, citing next-generation Perovskite Tandem Solar Cells being developed at IIT Bombay as a promising avenue for future pilot projects in Rajasthan.
Commending Rajasthan Chief Minister Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma, the Minister noted recent policy reforms such as the Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024 and the Rajasthan Green Hydrogen Policy. He highlighted the state’s impressive investment commitments exceeding ₹6.57 lakh crore, focusing heavily on renewables and green hydrogen.
He also spotlighted central schemes boosting clean energy adoption, including PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana with over 49,000 rooftop solar installations completed, and PM-KUSUM, which has installed nearly 1.45 lakh solar pumps in the state.
India has already surpassed its target of 50% installed capacity from non-fossil fuel sources five years ahead of schedule, the Minister said, attributing this success to the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
Shri Joshi urged accelerated deployment of wind-solar hybrid projects, noting Rajasthan’s untapped wind potential of 284 GW. He concluded that the Gorbea Solar Plant inauguration marks a new chapter in India’s clean energy journey, symbolizing hope, sustainability, and self-reliance.
