Sanction of ₹59.55 Crore for Koni-Mopka Bypass Reconstruction in Bilaspur

TFP Bureau, Raipur, August 8, 2025: The Chhattisgarh Public Works Department (PWD) has granted administrative approval for the reconstruction of the Koni-Mopka Bypass in Bilaspur district at a cost of ₹59.55 crore. The sanction, issued under the state’s 2025–26 budget provisions, follows clearance from Deputy Chief Minister and PWD Minister Arun Sao.

Stretching nearly 14 kilometres, the bypass has suffered extensive deterioration over the years due to heavy vehicular movement from NTPC Sipat, sponge iron plants, coal washeries, and dense city traffic. The poor condition of the road had prompted repeated demands from residents and public representatives for its urgent reconstruction.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has placed the project among the state’s top infrastructure priorities, stressing that the durability and quality of public roads will not be compromised. He underscored that robust infrastructure is critical to Chhattisgarh’s growth and warned that any negligence in such works will face strict action.

Following the ministerial approval, the PWD has directed the release of funds to the Engineer-in-Chief, with instructions to complete the project within the stipulated deadline and to adhere to stringent quality norms. Arun Sao emphasised zero tolerance for substandard materials or irregularities and called for continuous site supervision to ensure transparency and accountability.

The reconstructed bypass is expected to significantly improve industrial transport efficiency while reducing traffic congestion for urban commuters. The PWD will soon issue the work order, aiming to deliver a high-quality, long-lasting roadway that meets the state’s infrastructure development goals.
