World-Famous Bastar Dussehra Kicks Off with Traditional Paat Jatra Ceremony

TFP Bureau, Raipur, July 24, 2025: The globally acclaimed Bastar Dussehra festival officially began today with the sacred Paat Jatra ceremony held in front of the revered Danteshwari Temple in Bastar on Hariyali Amavasya. This solemn ritual, marking the formal start of the 75-day-long spiritual celebration, saw the participation of key dignitaries including MP and Bastar Dussehra Committee President Mahesh Kashyap, Jagdalpur MLA Kiran Dev, Mayor Sanjay Pandey, along with traditional functionaries and a large gathering of local devotees.

During the Paat Jatra, the ceremonial worship and consecration of chariot-making tools such as the Thurlu Khotla were performed, symbolizing the sacred preparations for the festival’s grand events. This ceremony heralds the beginning of a rich calendar of rituals that showcase Bastar’s deep cultural roots and devotion to Goddess Danteshwari.

Key upcoming events include Deri Gadhai on September 5, Kachhangadi on September 21, and Kalash Sthapana on September 22. The festival will feature daily Navratri worship, Rath Parikrama, Maha Ashtami Puja, Kumari Puja, and the grand Muria Darbar tribal congregation, culminating in the Kutumb Jatra farewell ceremony on October 5 and the concluding Mavli Mata’s Doli procession on October 7.
