Korba Power Limited Marks Ozone Layer Protection Day with Week-long Awareness Drive, Engages Schools and Community

TFP Bureau, Korba, September 22, 2025: Korba Power Limited (KPL), located at Patari in Barpali tehsil of Korba district, concluded a week-long awareness campaign on environmental protection to commemorate International Ozone Layer Protection Day and Seva Parv. The campaign, held from September 16 to 20, witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 300 people, including plant employees, higher secondary students, contract workers, and members of the surrounding community.

The programme opened with an awareness rally inside the plant premises, where more than 100 employees, officials, and workers joined together to highlight the urgent need to protect the ozone layer. The rally was followed by interactive sessions where experts and company officials engaged participants on topics such as environmental sustainability, pollution control, and the global significance of the ozone layer in combating climate change.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Business Officer of Korba Power Limited, Samir Mitra, underlined the importance of protecting the ozone layer for future generations. He explained its role in shielding the earth from harmful ultraviolet radiation and emphasized the need for collective action. Project Head, C.V.K. Prasad, lauded the awareness initiative, stating that campaigns like these are crucial to encourage eco-friendly practices at both institutional and community levels. O&M Head, Amol Sharad Rao Mahale, stressed the importance of accountability in environmental protection, urging participants to not only take pledges but also maintain records, review progress, and commit to continuous improvement in reducing environmental damage.

One of the highlights of the campaign was the involvement of local school students. More than 120 students from Sargbundia village actively participated in competitions including painting, slogan writing, and essay writing, which allowed them to creatively express their understanding of ozone layer conservation and environmental protection. Winners of these competitions were awarded by KPL officials, including Land Department Head Vikas Thakur and Corporate Affairs Head Atul Gupta, along with local teachers. As part of the initiative, 500 cloth bags were distributed among students and villagers, accompanied by appeals to reduce plastic usage in daily life.

In addition to competitions, a series of diverse activities were carried out throughout the week. These included street plays staged in nearby villages to spread awareness in simple, relatable language, tree plantation drives within and outside the plant premises, online quizzes, speech contests, and a “Best from Waste” initiative to promote recycling and resource efficiency. Each event was designed to not only spread knowledge but also encourage people to adopt sustainable practices in their everyday lives.

The Environment Department of Korba Power Limited, led by Ishan Tamrakar, played a pivotal role in organizing the campaign. Tamrakar and his team worked closely with different departments to ensure that messages about ozone protection reached a wide audience. He highlighted that the company’s vision of environmental responsibility goes beyond compliance and focuses on meaningful community engagement.

The campaign concluded on September 20 with a closing ceremony, during which winners of various competitions were honoured in front of employees, students, and community representatives. Senior officials reiterated the company’s commitment to balancing industrial growth with ecological sustainability.
