Only 608 candidates shortlisted against intended 795 as several aspirants failed to meet mandatory subject-wise qualifying marks; Commission says there was no error in the process
TFP Bureau, Raipur, September 5, 2026: The Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC) has clarified that only 608 candidates were shortlisted for interviews following the State Service Main Examination-2025, instead of the intended 795, because a number of candidates failed to secure the prescribed minimum qualifying marks in individual question papers.
The clarification comes amid discussions and claims circulating on social media questioning the lower-than-expected number of candidates selected for the interview stage. The Commission said the shortfall was in accordance with the examination rules and was not the result of any error in evaluation or selection.
Under Clause 3(iv) of the State Service Examination-2025 advertisement and Clause 7 of the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission Procedure Rules, candidates are required to secure at least 33 per cent marks in each question paper for the unreserved category and 23 per cent for reserved categories.
The Commission explained that even if the number of candidates meeting the overall selection criteria is lower than the prescribed or intended number, candidates who fail to obtain the minimum qualifying marks in any individual paper cannot be shortlisted for the interview. Consequently, 608 candidates qualified for the interview stage against the intended figure of 795.
No provision for re-evaluation
The CGPSC has also clarified that there is no provision for re-evaluation or re-calculation of answer scripts in examinations conducted by the Commission. Clause 11(V) of the examination advertisement specifically rules out such a process.
Accordingly, the Commission said requests for re-evaluation or re-calculation of marks in any question paper cannot be entertained.
Merit list and cut-off marks to be published
Following declaration of the final selection results, the Commission will publish the merit list based on candidates’ performance in the preliminary and main examinations, along with the cut-off marks for the Main Examination, on its official website.
Candidates seeking further information about their performance can also obtain copies of their preliminary examination OMR answer sheets and Main Examination question-cum-answer booklets under the provisions of the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
Anonymised, question-wise evaluation
The Commission said the written examination is evaluated through a question-wise and completely anonymised process by subject experts. The system is designed to ensure that evaluators cannot identify the candidate to whom an answer booklet belongs.
A large number of subject experts participate in the evaluation of answer booklets, with the process being conducted under established rules and guidelines to maintain confidentiality, impartiality and integrity.
Candidates urged to rely on official information
The CGPSC has appealed to candidates and aspirants not to be misled by unverified claims circulating on social media and other platforms.
